Really liked the way this finished, both the tournament and the story as a whole. Nothing too fairy tale, but on a happy, upbeat ending.

There's Oberstein, la Rothiere and Eduardo Lucas who are all mentioned in "The Second Stain". Plus Adolph Meyer, Louis La Rothiere (again) and Hugo Oberstein from "The Bruce-Partington Plans".

And glad you liked the ending. The ending had been fixed in my mind since the beginning, it's just getting the story to that point that's the tricky bit. But now they're happy and snuggly and together, and in the end, that's all that matters. Right? :D

Augh, no, curse you, CURSE YOU! I just stayed up till all hours finishing my Holmestice piece and now I got the alert that you'd posted this literally as I wanted to go to bed. You may find the List of Detectives, Constables, and agents and the minor Sherlock Holmes character list both from Wikipedia to be helpful. The minor character list all seem exceedingly British but the detectives/constables/agents have some good names, even first names you could use as last if you liked.
