the boys ask the girls, incredulous, why they swoon over diamonds, and what is the appeal in wearing expensive borrowed clothes. why, they wonder aloud, do girls so love having their picture taken? these girls do not answer back, because we want proof that we were once this beautiful.

on jeopardy one of the contestants was talking about his business, an auto shop or some such thing, and how people "tend to want to use different verbiage with the different genders" but he "treats [his] customers on a one-by-one basis" and talks to them at their level, regardless of gender, whatever it may be ( Read more... )

with the door open, i get nervous. just my room has four of them, four doors. four chances for people to walk in on me, to see me before i see them. four places for them to walk out.

i am remembering when he said i knew what i was getting into, and i am thinking run but the most of me will not budge.

i can feel my life escaping me, and i find myself biting my bottom lip, like i'm trying to keep it all in, so that people say "you still have some lipstick left," and i say "no, not lipstick."
