A week in my taitai life

What's a week like in the Jesslyn Irminger household?

- C's back to not eating: I kid you not she shuts her lip so tight I can't even pry it open with a spoon without hurting her. Sure sign of stubbornness then? Oh joy!

- I had mysterious gastric pain all of Tuesday morning and did not sleep a wink from 2-6am. Just as I was dozing off, C gets up at 6 ( Read more... )

I hope so too! I'm gonna take a few hours off in the day. Need to run some errands and grab a coffee with a friend!

Yup!

So annoyed that someone asked me yesterday what do i do all day since I had a helper. Excuse me, I do everything from making her food, feeding to bathing her. And they haven't even seen how high maintenance Clover is. She is not one of those babies you can leave on the playmat on her own; she'll be half way across my lounge before I can finish saying Clover!

we flushed a term's worth of swim class fees down the toilet too. attended maybe 2 out of 8 lessons, and for both, she did not nap and was cranky so we left the classes fifteen minutes in. babies are tough!

and she was ill this whole week. we cancelled our trip to san francisco (which was supposed to be sans baby) and i have been feeling so oh disgruntled. taking care of a sick bub is not funny, and what's more if a long awaited break has been cancelled! outside of her colicky days, this has been the worst week ever for me!

oh dear... so sorry to hear about M and the cancelled trip. hope she wasn't down with anything too serious.

are you and the husband able to maybe just do a quick weekend jaunt somewhere in the coming weeks as a reward for this week?

Sounds like you had a really tough week!
Always a pain when you're zonked and baby refuses to go down for a nap/ go back to sleep.

Are the medical staff using weight gain as basis for FTT assessment?
Clover's really fit and athletic for a toddler...with all that exercising, I can imagine she burns her food fuel quite quickly.
Supplement with milks like Pediasure?

Yup just weight. She wasn't a pleasant lady for sure; I felt rush and she didn't even comment much on Clover's motorskills / other developmental milestone. Not sure if we have Pediasure here and to be honest C hasn't tasted formula since she was 2 days old (went for phototheraphy for jaundice), I am not sure if she would take FM. I've tried 3x at various points previously and they were epic failures!

We are seeing a PD this coming Friday, if he suggests supplementing, then we are going down that route.

I can feel the frustration! Hope the week ahead is a better one. No choice, but to press on, right?

Am wondering why the medical staff are thinking of putting the Failure to Thrive label on her. Her motor skills are really advanced and she seems so active. Some kids are just horrors to feed - I can remember my sister (6 years younger than me) was terrible, but she grew up all the same.

It's such a horrid label, especially for such a young child. I don't get this whole labelling thing.

Frankly a part of me knows that it's genetics - I was a below the curve child AND I was a terrible eater (look at me now!) - but it doesn't take away the worry, especially when someone says FTT.

Somedays I tell C she is being so difficult, she will get it back at least 2 folds when she has her own child and I am not going to sympathise!

Agree with yflyn.
If Clover is active, chirpy, sleeping ok and no visible health issues, there is less of a reason to be worried about "FTT".
Some kids will always remain at the 25th percentile for weight....(just as unfortunately some of us carry the obese gene and always risk tipping the scale :p)
Hope your PD is gonna give you a more thorough explanation and better alternatives.
