Theme for the BABY??? Not, like, the baby shower, or the nursery, just, like, what, the theme of your child's LIFE????

Wtf how does that even make sense.

YAY FOR SUPPORTING SELF-DETERMINATION!!!! (But also: just. what.)

NO IDEA! I mean, maybe they mean the nursery or the baby shower, but I don't even know what sort of "theme" I'd have for either of those. It's so weird.

also, hi. ♥

PREACH IT! sounds like you're doing just fine.

one of the most important parts of parenting is to every day ask the question, 'who are you?' and listen for the answer.

I'm so excited to find out who she is and continue to learn about her as she grows. ♥

I'm pretty sure this is a relatively recent phenomenon. Or people just knew me well enough not to bother asking me any such thing because oh HELL no. It's true that there are things we know about how average babies process different things, so like, red-white-and-black is stimulative; having things that are familiar fosters sense of place and stuff... but other than that? NO. Hell, I am one of those freaks who profoundly didn't want to know the sex of my child either time, because I wanted no preconceived notions about who they would be. I also didn't have any more than a list of ten or twelve names either way when they were born because I couldn't stand to name a child I hadn't met. So yeah, no themes here ( ... )

Yeah, it's going to take us a bit to figure out some name choices (we have vastly different ideas), but I don't want to decide on any 1-2 of them, because what if she doesn't LOOK like an Emmaline Vaseline Coraline du jour?

but I love the swirlie idea, because it is so open and wide and perfect, so I may tell people that little Hobo is a fan of swirlies. :D

Hee. Yeah, for girl names I was all Cordelia! Ramona! Luciana! and he was all Ma-anything-a (Marissa Miranda Makayla Marika Malinda...) so it's just as well we had all boys. But we still only had it down to like 8 of each.

I didn't have a theme for my child, I just bought a bunch of unrelated things that I liked and put it in her room! Even to this day (she is 10yrs now) relatives asked why I didn't have a theme ;) The child (as I call her) is just her own person; one day she can be all girly and the next she will insist on wearing her black high tops and cut off shorts to school.
To hell with themes! let's create a new generation of non conformists.

I've been doing our registry as more of a list of all of the stuff that copilot and I need to make sure we have for her when she arrives, but it's sort of daunting to think of making it all need to match something. I don't want to get her only a couple of colors, because what if she likes them ALL?

Hooray for nonconformists! ♥

I didn't know for a long time that there was such a thing as themes for babies. I always just thought that babies needed baby things, and didn't realize that they had to be "specific" baby things. But I think that comes from what you grow up with and what's around you.

My family has always been so big on being thrifty that my father's mother has a whole HOUSE next door to her own house (it's kinda ancient and run down, so it's like a huge family storage building) that is stuffed full of baby/kid things that have been handed around from person to person, and it's always there if you need clothes or cribs or car seats or whatever (and with having 7 kids of her own, and over 20 grandchildren, and now almost 10 great grandchildren, they've gotten some use, omg).

So with that in mind, there's no way anyone in my family as ever had a "theme" for their baby, unless you count recycling or something. I only learned about them when my sister-in-law started having kids, and I was told "Baby B has a zoo theme, so buy things with zoo animals on ( ... )

Yes, exactly. Babies need *BABY* things, so that's the theme. Things that are actually good for baby.

And oh wow, that place that your grandmother has with all sorts of baby stuff sounds like a great resource for your family; how awesome. ♥
