The search for gainful employment

Jul 15, 2006 22:17

So, I have to get a job. I mean, I wanted one anyway, but we kind of agreed to buy this house which is just barely within our price range on a single income and that's only if we theoretically do not waste money on stupid stuff. This is not something we are capable of doing.

How did all you employed people do this? )

Oops. Sorry. I have got to stop thinking in French at random moments. School doesn't start back up until Sept, and I don't need any French until then.

Bonne Chance = Good luck.

I do that, too. Quelle heure est il? tends to come to me faster than the english equivalent, and I'd say it all the time. My friends just started ignoring it, and I had to stop and rephrase myself.

I love you.

And, second off, you'll have a much better chance than I did. Oh, that, and you've already applied at twice the places I did. And you, like, actually are an adult. With more than a year's college experience. And you're applying for accounting. Not McDonald's. Or Starbucks.

And I love you.

And you'll do just fine, sweetie. You've got a lot going for you. A lot, a lot. I would hire you!!!

hell, if I had money, I would hire you to write fanfic for me, buttttt.... *pouts*

*bounces*

Well, thank you! Hooray for encouragement and other such nice things. And I would totally write fanfic for a living if, you know, I could make enough at it to pay for things. Although they say if you take what you love to do and make it into your job, you suck the fun out of it.

Job hunting sucks. I know. I've been doing it since September. I've managed to keep working with temp jobs, but I haven't been hired full-time yet.

I suggest registering with temp/employment agencies to get immediate work while you're looking for work within your profession, and ask your profs for referrals, contact numbers, and references. Since you are a good student, they will be more than happy to do so.

...September of last year?

That's so reassuring. *g*

I did register with an office temp agency, and I've gotten a few of my teachers to agree to be references. I wouldn't mind having a temp job, I guess, as long as I'm making enough at it to pay for childcare and still have a reasonable amount left over.

*pets* Job hunting sucks monkeys. It really is a full time job in itself. You have to just put yourself out there constantly, and it's a serious pain. I'm far too lazy to be good at job hunting.

*is petted*

It does indeed suck, but the world of internet job seeking helps a bit. Plus, the house won't be built until about the end of the year, so we have until then to start making payments. That gives me a little time to keep looking, at least.

*hugs*

I dread the day when I have to find a real, proper job. Finding Summer jobs is enough of a chore for me. I'm incredibly lazy and so far I've managed to get decent jobs with very little effort indeed.

Didn't Arthur's mum do accounting from home?

I've had the teenage food service job, but other than that my only job was the military, which is not something that is hard to get. They're very clear about wanting people. This is really my first time doing the actual job hunt application interview process thing.

Also, Arthur's mum? Bwa?

Arthur. The cutest aardvark ever, with the cutest friends.

It's a PBS cartoon I can't help but love.

I've worked in food service. Sort of.
I washed dishes and got to make salads occasionally. I probably woulnd't eat at that place myself, though.
