If you don't mind hiking, there are some breathtaking getaways and retreats you can do to get closer and intimate with God. Just pack a lunch/snack and spend a couple hours a top a mountain. It's like reaching and getting closer to God at the highest point of the earth. It's an unbelievable and indescribable feeling. And then from mountain top, you can do another retreat by the ocean water and just take in the sounds of the water and the beauty of how vast the bodies of water flow. And if mountains and oceans aren't enough, how about a quick stop in a lush and green park where you can take in the wonders and nature of God's creation. I think that covers all the areas of beautiful VancouverOf course this is YOUR decision...I just happened to give you my honest and *ahem* biased opinion. Not to mention you'll fulfill your japanese-eating, Canadian (can't get in US)-shopping, bookstore-reading, outdoor-people-watching, gelato-tasting, and coffee/iced tea-sipping cravings ( ... )

Jerry's really selling Vancouver hard, isn't he? I would sell Ohio but come on, who are we kidding? Let's both get ourselves up to Vancouver and see what the fuss is all about. :P

I like San Luis Obispo. I went there a few years ago, it is beautiful. A great getaway.

agreed, I go to school in SLO and it's gorgeous, but 5 minutes away there are 6 beaches that surround the town, like Pismo. I think you'd love Pismo beach, a lot of surfer's from all over the world come here for the waves and many people retire here. You should try RTVing on the sand dunes, and on the weekends many college students camp out in the dunes and have bon fires (It's a big old college town).

Famous Splash cafe for clam chowder (Pismo)
Firestone's 805.783.1001 (SLO)
Cliff's resort http://www.cliffsresort.com
Madonna Inn (excellent sushi restaurant next to it as well)

I love doing things by myself. Haven't done the movie thing, it's waste of $$ to me. Shopping, eating... it's cool.

moving to south OC, where the nearest family member or friend is at least an hour away, i've learned to do certain things on my own. i enjoy going out on a sunday afternoon to catch a movie or just to get lost by myself and discovering new things. it makes for a good surplus of stuff to show someone eventually...enjoy your trip!
