pretty sure the point of grad school is to write scary papers, papers that will be due at about finals time :) so, technically, maybe not finals, but it will feel the same!

re: finals, I think it may depend on the program.

JD, MBA, and at least some MA/MS/PHd require finals.

Congrats again on SLIS! SLIS doesn't really do exams at all (though I hear a couple classes do). Mostly there are papers and projects, due sometime during the last 2 weeks of class and finals week. I was lucky enough this semester to be done on Friday of the last week of class, and got finals week free (except for work).

And you should check out http://www.librarything.com. I've been in love with it for ages, and recently became re-addicted. I think you'd appreciate it too. :) We can chat about it sometime, because it's AMAZING!

well, off the top of my head:
Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson (or anything by her, really)
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
Fun Home by Alison Bechdel (it's a graphic novel, so it goes quickly)
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Anything by the following authors:
-Roald Dahl
-David Sedaris
-Madeline L'Engle
-Michelle Tea

If you let me know what you're interested in I can give you a better list. I'm such a librarian book dork!
-Jeffrey Eugenides (he's only written two, "The Virgin Suicides" and "Middlesex", and they're both excellent)
