Marie's got November 5th X'd out in a thick black marker on her calendar. there's no emoticon to express the sadness of this. it's the only thing in her apartment that is revealing of what happened.

there's a red star helium balloon stuck way up at the top of a tree outside my kitchen window. i thought it was a dangling child wearing an orange parka at first. i didn't understand.
