Yahoo!! (ALC6 fundraising)
Woohoo!! I've met my minimum fundraising goal for ALC6!! (Thanks to Obfuscate/Becca for alerting me to that development). I was just $75 away from the $2500 ($2500!!!!) I needed, so I sent out one last plea to the women faculty at SFSU -- my two colleagues in the clinical division ponied up so now I've actually *surpassed* the minimum by $25. The weather here has been gorgeous this week -- clear and sunny and in the 60s -- and I've been sad not to be out on my bike in it. Today, having been given a short (thank goodness) extension on the long-delayed project, and having been *very* productive at work, I rewarded myself with a bike ride. I think I might be an athlete. No, really!
It occurred to me yesterday, about 2/3 of the way through a 41 mile bike ride. I was talking to one of the ride leaders and she was talking about "women athletes," and she was clearly including me (and herself) in the group (universe of discourse(!)). I might've written about one of my women's ride leaders, Debbie, whose strength and giant calves I totally admire. On today's hilly ride, she was leading the group, and on one of the later hills, I had a burst of energy and cranked past a bunch of people, eventually passing her as well ( Read more... ) -

Biked 38-ish miles (1740' elevation gain, I think?) today with the all-women group (also got my atrociously pink t-shirt; it is the color of the pink Canada Mints, if anyone remembers those; kinda like Pepto Bismol). The ride was beautiful -- through Palo Alto, Woodside, Los Altos, all of which are pricey SF/San Jose suburbs, including a great deal ( Read more... ) -

I had to take a break from biking last week, and it made me cranky; the weather was really nice last Sunday, and I was worried about losing a week on training rides that get progressively longer each week.
