story wise a female dragon would have made more sense as it would have allowed for potential future procreation and thus more dragons.
RIGHT? I thought for sure they would make it a girl, but I'm quite sure I heard "he" as well. D:
If Merlin had listened to Gaius, then the baby...never would have been named? IDK. I mean, assuming Merlin doesn't have children, but if he is the last dragonlord, that's a big risk to take. >_
I agree, I loved seeing Merlin going against Gaius's advice and being impulsive and making mistakes. But at the same time being AWESOME. That scene at the end in the tomb? I LOVED IT.
You're right, it would have made more sense for it to be a girl...
I'm not liking Gaius much this season either. :( I mean why couldn't he just talk to Merlin rationally. Explain why Borden shouldn't be trusted or why he thought the dragon egg would be safer hidden.
Yeah. I thought I heard 'he' too and thought the same thing.

Gaius should have shown Arthur the charm. Tbh, I think he and Merlin should also have tried to talk Arthur out of destroying the dragon egg. He's not his father and aren't they supposed to be stopping him from acting like his father?
Yea I'm wondering why male dragon etc. but since Merlin is the last dragonlord, maybe the art is meant to die out.
I'd like to think so, but idk if I trust the Merlin writers to have thought it through that much.
I was kind of okay with the dragon being male, mostly because I was having a huge squick reaction to the idea of Kilgarrah kind of being the dragon father figure and then bringing her up to mate with. The dragons don't feel like animals and that just felt really horrible so I actually sighed with a bit of relief. I don't know if that was the writers reasoning, mind, but it could have been.
I think Gaius was being pretty unreasonable btu I felt it rather worked, mostly because everyone was being so grumpy and I think it's because of Uther's death. It doesn't necessarily make anybody more likeable but it made me feel really sorry for everyone so it sort of worked. It was quite nice to see Merlin being so damn awesome so. I loved watching him take matters so mcuh in his own hands and mostly get it right!
And woodworm. Cannot forget the woodworm. BEAWARE THE WOODWOOOOORM!

Yeahh... apparently you need a dragon lord to hatch the dragon and it doesn't seem likely that Merlin is going to have kids, so. :/
