Basically LJ now takes it upon itself to judge which content is appropriate and suspend communities and journals. This is obviously entirely motivated by fear that advertisers will see their ads on pages with "questionable" content or interests, which today was apparently "lolita", "incest", and "rape" but may as well be "abortion", "same-sex marriage" and "atheism" tomorrow.
They deleted journals of rape victims for listing "rape" as an interest!
I will continue to use LJ as long as the majority of my friends are using it, and most of them aren't moving, I think. It seems that the networks we've built up here are more precious to us than a political action. I think most of us aren't blamable for that... perhaps if anything is more important than politics, it's that.
I'm quite disturbed by what happened and not at all reassured by the apologies, so I want to have an alternative ready. I'm not going to go away just yet, but my "network" is small enough that if three or four people decided to move away from LJ I'd probably have little reason to stay.
On second thought, perhaps it's more meaningful to stay and fight to salvage this place. But I couldn't resist doing this so perhaps I'll get banned now... <3
I'm planning on staying. I think this will blow over, and I think LJ is doing its best to correct the situation. And as people who deciding not to change houses say, all my stuff's here anyway.
It certainly is a catchy name. :) I've played with the idea of having other journals, but I think even one is almost more than what my organization can handle. I tend to dissapear for long periods of time on everything else I do, and more than one person probably thinks I've died.
