An outing with buildings and statues and carvings..

Today I went on a history walk that started at Charing Cross Station and finished at Parliament Square. On the way, we learned about the reasons behind some of the street names, and what "vermiculated rustication" is, learned about former palaces and passed several pubs and various government ministry buildings ( Read more... )

Another fascinating outing round such an interesting area. The Foreign Office is equally amazing inside as we managed to go round it on Open House weekend a few years ago. Many thanks for sharing the walk!

I would have loved to see the inside of many of those buildings. I need to get more organised on the Open House weekends! I love learning something new and I particularly love 'of' Alley LOL!

I used to travel to Embankment station and then walk to my college off Trafalgar Square for 3 of my 4 years. That Water Gate always fascinated me.

I love those steps that Queen Mary II used ... haven't spotted them (yet).

One of the things I like in London is where all the houses are different heights .... always makes me smile.
