Right now I'm eating wasabi-coated nuts as a mid-morning snack. My lips are stinging, my eyes are weeping, and I'm loving it ( Read more... )

I love it! There is a restaurant here that makes absolutely INCREDIBLE Indian food-- and it's spicy. Eating it is like a conflict on my tongue, one one side it's aching, but on the other the taste buds can't stop craving for more. =)

What a quandry! I traveled to India with a colleague a couple of years back and he had a strong reaction to chili. We reckoned he broke out his own personal monsoon whenever it came near enough to sniff it. He missed out on some excellent food.

Well I'm hoping to go to India early next year, so it WILL be a quandry. I might have to get in some practise here before going - there's a top rated Indian eatery near where I live.
Several years ago I arrived in Bangkok early evening, and by the time I'd got to where I was staying, it was late andf I was starving. I went to the nearest eatery and decided to order a Green Curry. I'd never had one before, but when in Rome.... It was SO HOT that I couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls, so I went to bed hungry.

I ate a half a bag of those today! My manager was helping me with a project, and I made him try one, and then he couldn't stop either! THEY'RE SO ADDICTIVE!!!

My tongue is totally numb tonight, though. I think I may have chemically burned it. But so worth it!

I have a lot of trouble with oil-based hot foods (like chillies, etc), since that tends to cling to the inside of your mouth much more. But horseradish and wasabi and other vapor-based heats are something I can't possibly live without. I've been known to just eat the wasabi straight-up in sushi restaurants. Not only is it totally yummy, but it freaks my friends out. Bonus!
