Have I been under a rock over the past few years, or did Christmas decorations start exceptionally early this year?  As in, there's no more Thanksgiving anymore.  We go straight from Halloween to Christmas now, and stores don't even bother putting up fall or Thanksgiving stuff.
It's all in the name of selling more products: Christmas is much more ( Read more... )

UNLESS
it's Sufjan's new five-disc Christmas project, coming out on Tuesday =]
And if you haven't heard it yet... it rules so hard.
I got it last year, when it was just songs floating around the internet that Sufjan had recorded for friends and family and given to them as Christmas presents. I love everything on it.

I'm more saddened by corporate Christmas, like abusing Christmas in order to sell more coffee makers and ankle socks. If decorations make you and your family feel better and warmer inside, then awesome! That's what they should do. Christmas (and however you chose to celebrate it) is supposed to make people happy and love each other and feel good.

I only have a problem when companies market Christmas as a product or when people buy each other presents for no other reason than to exchange stuff. It's pointless and loveless. It doesn't do what Christmas should do, which is make people enjoy family and life.

What can I say? People like stuff(ing) more than they like turkey. Hence, Christmas rules supreme.

As a side note. It's not so much that stores have forgotten Thanksgiving decorations as you missed them a month ago (Costco is ON it, tell you what).

The release on Tuesday has five discs, too. I think I only had three of them. I'm excited. Plus I think for the five discs, a huge booklet, and like stickers it's still only $17.
