Of all the times not to pack a bunch of food.

Have any of you checked out the food machine? Is that a load of crap or what? I mean, if you give it exact instructions, it will produce something that maybe, if you really use your imagination, will taste slightly like what you want, but for the most part it's all crap.

And don't think you can say, "Make something delicious!" and leave it to ( Read more... )

There is no hope. piper_g January 21 2003, 13:56:03 UTC
It's worse than my Nouri-gen used to be by a long shot. I've figured out what to say to get something out of this one that *looks* almost like a hamburger, but taste, of course, is another story. I think Beej said something about it being like a cross between unsweetened cheerios, that peanut butter and jelly stuff that comes all in the same jar, and salsa con queso?

You know, I've heard of certain planets where the inhabitants don't have taste buds. Perhaps this ship came from one of them. *crinkles her nose*

You could be right on the beings with no taste buds. This stuff is worse than awful, it's godawful.

I think I'd have better luck if it knew what earth food was, but it has no clue at all. I made a sandwich, and asked for a sliced tomato on it. It got the sandwich, because I explained it as two peices of bread with meat between them, but it translated tomato to mean I wanted a crawling slug type thing in my sandwich! *Shudders*

It would. See, if it doesn't have a match in your language for tomato, it'll probably start going through the other languages in its database, most likely starting with Common. Thank you for adding a new word to my vocabulary, by the way. ;)

Try saying ch'kerrip next time instead of tomato. They served those on the base a lot and from what I remember they tasted kinda similar to tomatoes, except they're purple with gray spots. If you close your eyes and really use your imagination you might be able to pretend you're at a really really crummy Earth restaurant!

Ch'kerrip? *Says it a few times* Okay, I'll remember that. Thanks.

You know, I can describe things in base words. "Sweet, sour, spicy, hot," but translating it into terms a machine can understand is another story.

I do have a couple of Hershy Kisses in my pocket. Do you think if I let this thing examine one of those it might at least make something like chocolate?

I'd better take the foil off first.

If you think you could make something to cover our shoes, that would be a good idea. You're right, anything we can do to fit in more, would be great.

All right, I'll work on that. *Nods* I think I can come up with something.

I'm sure you'll be able to figure out something for the food Kia and the bootcovers as well.

I think I had better luck with the foot coverings than the food. *Shudders*
