(OOC: If you want to be a part of this away mission, please read the whole post including OOC comments at the end for all information, captains orders, etc.)Kirk stared down at the ice planet on the forward view screen unhappily. He didn't have the best relationships with ice planets, and the idea of going down to this one had him less than pleased ( Read more... )

AWAY MISSION - The Search For Spock dctr_mccoy July 14 2010, 02:19:39 UTC
Bones was laying flat on his face. Something had hit Jim and him, knocked them off their feet and onto the ground with the force of a hurricane wind. Lifting his head, it was blowing so hard he almost couldn't make out the body not five feet away from him.

"Jim!" he called out, crawling on his stomach toward the bump in the snow that he hoped was Jim. His gloved hands reached out and felt Jim's body, and Bones sighed with relief.

"I can't figure out which way to go!" Jim called out. "We can't just wander with no idea which way to go!" Which was practically what they were already doing.

"We can't just stay still out here, either!" Bones felt the cold starting to settle inside him down, despite the heavy clothing, and he knew being exposed like this was wrong. "We felt him this way, let's keep going this way!" Maybe Spock would feel stronger if they got closer.

SPOCK! Jim shook his head, something telling him this was it. "He's here! I'm sure of it!" He stared down at the ground, but all he could see was snow.

He stepped forward, staring at a lump in the ground. Could it be Spock, covered?! He stepped over to it.

The snow gave out under his feet, and he fell.

"Jim!" Bones screamed, watching him fall, not too far thankfully. It looked like some sort of underground cavern, cold but at least it was out of the wind, so Bones slid down there, feet first to join him. "You okay?" he asked, looking over Jim quickly.

He felt Spock again, that pulsing itch in the back of his head. Jim was right, they were close.

Jim blinked a few times, then nodded. "...Yea." He sat up, looking around, then rubbed his back and backside where he had hit the ground. "...What is with me and ice planets and caves?" He asked the fates, standing up.

Bones was about to answer when he felt snow starting to fall in on them from above. Stepping further inside the cave, he brushed the snow off of him and looked further into the cavern. He couldn't see how far it went, but it got pretty damn dark just a few feet in there.

Pulling out his flashlight, he flipped it on and pointed it further into the cave. "What do you think?"

Jim shook snow off himself and added his flashlight to the mix, frowning. "Maybe Spock crawled in here?" Safer than being out in the storm. He shone the light on the walls, then started forward.

Spock? The lack of replies was starting to scare him.

Bones followed Jim, the walls of the cavern trapping the bitter cold inside. At least they were out of the wind, though, and Spock... if Spock were down here, they'd have to find him.

They'd walked for a while when they came to a fork. "Which way?" he asked aloud, to himself as much as Jim. He cleared his thoughts, trying to focus. Where are you, you cagey hobgoblin?

He wasn't sure if they were actually coming closer, or whether it was a trick of his own mind as he grew comfortable and familiar with the bonds again after the pain of the meld and the events preceding it. Either way, he still tugged the bonds closer, touching at their minds with a sleepy listlessness.

It was like following an invisible thread rope. Jim looked between the passages, then just kept moving. Spock was still conscious, at least enough to be felt, but not conscious enough to answer him. Spock, we're coming, promise... just hang on, dammit. I didn't go through all this shit just for you to die on the first mission afterward!

They were headed in right direction, of that he was pretty sure now. The feeling was tinged with warmth, despite the cold - Spock was talking to them, he knew that, and that made Bones want to find him all the more.

The look on Jim's face told him that he felt the same. Despite all that had happened, there was some protective feelings toward the Vulcan. We're close now. Just hold on.

In the end, Spock was still... his friend. Things had changed, deeply and totally, but even if Spock wasn't his friend, he was his first officer. A double reason that he had to find the Vulcan.

Several times they had to stop, feeling their way. Eventually Jim realized, staring ahead, that there was a light. Within another hundred feet... "The walls are glowing," Jim whispered, which echoed in the quiet.

They slowed down, not sure what was happening around them. The rocks on the wall were lit, as if from within, a bluish glow that seemed to match the cold.

Bones pulled out his tricorder and scanned the area. "There's some sort of energy ahead," he said, weak, almost too weak to register as life. "We need to find him soon," Bones looked over at Jim, "or we're gonna lose him."

"I know," Jim looked back to Bones, then started forward again. He could still hear the howling wind in the distance, the storm still raging. Step by step, slowly, even when he felt like just flopping down.

Then, there in the distance, something white. Huge.

They walked closer, both on guard now that they could see something ahead.

Soon they were able to make out the large object ahead, and Bones stopped in his tracks when he realized what it was - it looked almost like skeletal remains of some enormous creature. "Jim?" he asked, not wanting to step any closer. "Your report mention anything like this here on the planet?"

How could anything survive here? What sort of life form would that be?
