True friends do not ask each other to lie for them. If you are lying for them, your friendship will become something cheap and dishonest. The trust that is established among friends becomes tarnished, because now there is a big ugly lie hanging over the both of you.
You absolutely did the right thing. I am going through a very similar situation and if I found out district had screwed up, you cen bet I would be doing everything I could to make it right. If she is begrudging you the job, and saying you should have just let it go, then she is not being a good friend to you. You have done nothing to wrong her. Hopefully, once the shock and anger wears off, she will appologize for taking out her fear on you. If she doesn't, then she wasn't a friend in the truest sense of the word.
I love you girl, and I'll call you soon! (then you can hear all of my dramas)
You absolutely did the right thing in pointing out the mistake. Not only was it detrimental to your future as a teacher, but it could have been used against you in the future had you not corrected it now. Who knows, a future employer could, in looking into your references, come across this false information about you. Sam is, of course, put off. But I'm willing to bet she is more angry at the situation than she is at you, and hopefully she will realize this fact soon. For now, it's probably best to give her time to gather her bearings and determine what to do next, as she is undoubtedly thrown for a loop at this news.
A real true friend, Kristen, would accept that she is the one who must lose her job, congratulate you, and would under no circumstances insist that a mistake was what is "meant to be." That's horsepuckey if I ever heard it.
I believe that you did the correct thing. You inquired as to how seniority worked. You found out that the district made a serious error and that error was corrected. Just because you are friends does not mean that she needs her job more than you need yours. Since you both want and need your jobs equally then you have to follow the regulations previously estabolished to determine who gets seniority. You did not steal her job. You earned your job.. by avoiding ailments.
Random question for you. Being Halloween I was looking for my bo peep costume and couldn't find it. I thought that maybe I loaned it to you in college. There's no chance you still have it is there? It was made for me by a close friend of my mothers and I'd really like to find it.
