It's been a while since I did anything other than talk/bitch about my mundane life crap, so I thought it was HIGH TIME that I made a grand post telling you why Things I Like, and the Reasons Why I Like Them, are awesome beyond belief

I think it's precisely because I don't think it's realistic, obtainable, or even really desirable in the real world that soulmateism (IT IS A WORD IF I SAY IT IS!) makes me go googly-eyed and melty in fic. There have to be supernatural (AHAHAHA!) circumstances that bring it about and keep it there (i.e. not just "normal boy meets normal girl, boy thinks girl is pretty and sweet, boy loves girl greatly and t00bily forever"), and then I will totally buy into the whole GRAND PASSION thing, which is tempered and made interesting by the DEEPLY WRONG so it isn't just like. Any random blah romance novel.
All of which is to say: AMEN, SISTER!

I would add that the I hate you/I love you is also a classic romance trope a la Pride and Prejudice or many Harry/Draco fics. But that is of course very different from incest fic set ups.

And yeah, I love you/I hate you is classic -- tghough I think it can work, if in a rather different way, in incest fic. There's some truly awesome Weasleycest and Sam/Dean that deals with how, no matter how much you love your sibling, they can PISS YOU OFF like nobody else in the entire world. There's actually quite a bit of Sam/Dean that starts where they're being obnoxious, trying to wind each other up.

This is great timing because I was just watching a Netflick-provided collection of gay short films (Boys Shorts is the series, this was collection #3) and one of them, to my surprise and delight, was a gay incest film! VERY short, very much a twist at the end, but nonetheless, it had that sibling quality. The interview with the director was cool, too.
D'you mind my linking this on my Monday Meta? I was going to post about watching the film anyway, but this will make a great dovetail.

And of course you can link! :D I'd love to see how your thoughts are dovetailing. *g*

And you're going to like "Boys Shorts" - they're uneven, but a couple of the films are very mature and really well done.
