CSI Eulogy

I really wanted to love CSI all the way to the end of its run. Two years ago, when I joined the fandom, I couldn't imagine a time when I wouldn't be a raving CSI/Grissom fangirl ( Read more... )

Your post was heartening. Good luck writing original fiction.

Seriously, I just spent the last thirty minutes writing a reply to your post and my damn cat with just a touch of his paw deleted it*headesk!headesk"headesk!*

I'm so mad at myself right now for not copying it when he first started trying to sit on my keyboard that i could spit feathers. I'll have to get back to you when I'm a little calmer.

Suffice to say, I'm right there with you in regards to the show, but can only guess as to how you feel about others expectations about your writing and how that effects you. Perhaps it's because no one expects anything from me that I simply haven't experienced the kind of pressure to produce a Certain kind of story that you have. However, I have to say that judging from the calibeR of your work in CSI fan fiction, I'm sure you will do great work when you turn your mind to producing your own characters.

OK, that's all I've got right now. The offending cat is still bugging me for attention and it's way too late to start this thing over.

It's hard to watch the show go downhill. I feel like I've spend most of my recap time this year whining about the shitty writing, and your post makes me think that what's really bad about it is that they aren't doing anything with any of the characters. Warrick's got a wife, but we hear less about her than we do about SuperDave's wife. Nick was getting real edgy there for a while, but that's kind of tapered off and he just lounges around looking cool. Greg--Greg's about the only one who has gotten anywhere this season.

I never considered a relationship between Gil and Sara that I might believe in. the one TPTB have given us is so...icky...that I've been completely put off of it. How would you see a relationship between the two of them that really works, character-wise?

Yes--season three Gil. Maybe that's what I need to do, go back and find the Gil I love. My muse is stalled like a prop plane in a thunderstorm.

I haven't even watched any episodes since that one with the high school kids. Now really, that's mostly been because I now have a regular rehearsal on Thursday nights, but there was a time when I would have taped it ( ... )

I want to thank you for this. Not only does it encapsulate the soul of writing, not only is it a brilliant summary of why CSI went from #1 to #7 in the space of a season, but it gave my muses CPR. It wasn't just my CSI muses that had died; all of them were gone.

And you brought them back.

Thank you.
