Hello! I found this pattern from Ravelry and I have a quick question: when you drop the stitches, do you YO to keep the same number of stitches..or just bind off with 30 stitches?
Love this pattern!

Hi Vanessa,
I have been reading your blog for a while now and love your knitting. I loved the look of this shawl when I first saw it, and finally got around to starting it this past Saturday. I finished it on Wednesday, and after blocking, was wearing it by Thursday (unheard of for the slow and steady wins the race knitter and student that I am!). I used about 2.5 skeins of Noro silk garden. It opened up really nicely, and stretched quite well lengthwise. I am already planning another one for myself and many presents to come. Thank you!
BTW, I am from Victoria, but currently live in Quebec City. One of the things that makes me yearn to go back is the knitting culture that seems a lot more vibrant out West.

I am somewhat new to knitting. Stockinette stitch is knit, purl, knit, alternating rows, right? So do you drop the yo's on the purl row? Please can you help, I'm confused. Thank you very much.

I'm glad you get it now. & yes, stockinette is knit one row, purl the next row alternating. You can drop the YO's when the shawl is the desired length. It won't really matter if it is a knit row or a purl row.

Thanks for the confirmation. I taught myself to crochet about 5 years ago, and have always wanted to learn to knit. I know the basics of knitting, but it's painful. Have made one scarf, and had to frog it several times. Trying this pattern now, before I give up on knitting altogether.
thank you!ext_121114September 7 2008, 19:38:49 UTC
Thank you! I love this pattern and it's such a good complement to other more complex beginner patterns. I really will make this again. (in case you want to see my comments, i blogged about it at unlikelycrafter.wordpress.com). This shawl is really fantastic!
