~QUESTIONS FROM A PICKY AND OVERLY-ENTHUSIASTIC FAN~
Can you tell me something more on...
1. ...how did Sasukeh turn into a vampire? (or else: How did he meet the Naruto in 1600 and what happened? *__*)
Gathering all evidence, I can tell that Sasukeh was human once, but did “the right thing” and sacrificed himself for human/vampire -don't know- Naruto. He awoke in a barn in the snow, remembering Naruto and blood and a promise which became his goal, the reason of his living; he felt miserable, but after centuries he started to forget, until he met Naruto in 1800 and remembered again.
This is actually a story I planned on telling in the sequel, but if you wouldn’t mind hearing it now, here we go:
In the 1600’s, Sasukeh was a warrior traveling with his fleet across the countryside. It was the end of a war, and they were returning home after three years. They came across the first civilized village they’d seen in a long time, which was hospitable enough to let the small troupe stay and reap supplies for traveling back home. In return, they were asked for the aid of the medic traveling with them to look at the chief’s son, Naruto. They were told he had a horrible skin condition that wouldn’t allow him to stand in the sun, and that he couldn’t eat real food without falling horribly ill, and survived, seemingly, on nothing.
When the medic examined him, they found Naruto to possess a heart beat too faint to feel, and cold skin. The boy was kept away from the other villagers, in fear from his unknown disease spreading. The medic tried everything in his knowledge, but failed to come up with anything. In the mean time, Sasukeh started to visit Naruto at night, curious. Gradually they grew attached, and two months later found Sasukeh’s troupe ready to leave. Not wanting to go, Sasukeh convinced his leader to stay. The war was over, but small raiding parties fled across the country side, putting this village at risk. Because of the village’s generosity towards them, the leader gave them Sasukeh, one of their best warriors, to protect it.
But after a while, Sasukeh noticed another peculiar thing about Naruto’s condition. When Sasukeh arrived at the village, he had been fourteen. Two years later, Naruto still appeared to be so young. And more and more Sasukeh began to realize Naruto was hiding something from him. On some nights, when Sasukeh came to visit, Naruto wouldn’t be there, and would instead come back hours later, his face flushed and body alight with energy. So Sasukeh took to the habit of hiding outside the tent, and soon, he saw Naruto creeping out soon after daybreak. The village had a curfew of two hours before sunset, and Sasukeh chased him down the empty paths until he saw him sneak into a hut. Through the window, Sasukeh witnessed Naruto feeding on a sleeping man.
Angered and confused, Sasukeh confronted him the next night. After Naruto’s explanation, and in his misery at the news, Sasukeh claimed that the two of them couldn’t possibly be together, being of such different races. Naruto took it to mean that Sasukeh was too disturbed by his demonic nature. What Sasukeh meant was that he must find a way to become a vampire, like Naruto, to be with him for eternity. But knowing Naruto would never allow for danger to possibly befall him, Sasukeh knew that getting the answer from him would be impossible. The very next day he left to find of a much talked about shaman in order to find the answers he sought. But two months later found his quest a failure, and he returned home. When he got back, it was to a distraught village chief who told Sasukeh that Naruto had left to find the very same shaman to find a cure for his curse. Angered and shocked, Sasukeh prepared to leave yet again to hunt after Naruto’s trail. But the village received news two days later from a village in a far-off land that they had imprisoned a doctor who had done a dangerous experiment on a young boy, resulting in his death-their Naruto.
Broken at the news, Sasukeh nevertheless stayed for the peoples’ protection. Naruto had loved this village, so Sasukeh would protect it. One night, while patrolling, Sasukeh came across a strange man. After following him to learn of his intentions, Sasukeh witnessed him attack and feed from a villager, much like he’d seen Naruto do, only the victim was left to dead. Sasukeh confronted him, but found himself overpowered at the vampire’s strength. But this demon, Orochimaru, had heard of Sasukeh’s plight, and had devised himself a cunning plan. He told Sasukeh that when a human turns into a vampire, they lose something-a soul, of sorts-that causes that person to be reborn. Enraptured, Sasukeh begged the vampire to turn him. Orochimaru agreed, for his true plan was to take Sasukeh away once he turned for means of his own brand of companionship.
The next night, after Orochimaru had drained Sasukeh of blood, he fed the semi-conscious, dying man a flask of fresh human blood. But the transportation was interupted. A villager had witnessed Sasukeh leaving with the strange man, and alerted the rest of the village. Upon seeing their warrior and hero apparently dead and covered with blood on the floor, the villagers, with their power in numbers, chased Orochimaru from the village. But during the chaos, a nearby raiding party swept into the village, taking what little wealth they had, their livestock, slicing the necks of men and raping the women. They left Naruto’s beloved village in a pile of burnt ash.
Sasukeh awoke several days later in the barn he’d been turned in. It was badly burnt, but his body remained untouched, his skin immortal. He arose during daybreak, buried underneath nearly a foot of snow, remembering few things except for that one burning longing. And through the skeletal remains of the burned building, he saw a bar of light across the snow, and he slowly reached a hands towards it-that’s how he froze his hand.
And that’s it! If you were curious about Naruto’s transformation, it happened when he wondered out into the woods one night. A lone vampire did it just to sate his curiosity on the ritual, and left when he heard approaching people. The villagers took Naruto back, and from then on thought that Naruto had caught a horrible disease from his time in the woods.
2. ...Kakashi?
Again, putting together various hints throughout the chapters we know that Kakashi is a vampire, Sasukeh's travel companion. He occasionally joins him for no longer than five years, but then leaves because he has his own agenda - one that Sasukeh doesn't wish to know. He has met other vampires, and he was the one who told Sasukeh about the way to change a human. Kakashi made an observation once, about how Sasukeh's eyes crinkle at the corner when he lies -- which suggests they knew each other fair enough. He's been a distant observer, with a neutral stance so far (when Naruto asked him for directions, he neither helped nor attacked him). Intervening now would mean going against Sasukeh for some reason. (Although I can totally see him do it just because it would be interesting.) Does Sasukeh even know Kakashi is nearby? ….Not a fair question but do YOU think Kakashi will change Sasuke?
Sasukeh doesn’t know that Kakashi is nearby. Kakashi has a very interesting agenda, but I’m not telling you it, haha. And yes, the end was meant to imply Kakashi changing Sasuke.
3. What did Sasukeh “miss”, again? When Naruto had the chance to kill him but didn't, he said “I know what you miss” before going to him. Later, the vampire tells Sasuke what's the thing missing, and while everyone was expecting the clichè “a heart”, he says instead “you”. What does that mean? He lacks... a part of himself?
Everyone has a soul, but for the sake of this story, I consider the soul to be split into two. One side of the soul that lives on after death (which lives still in Sasukeh), and one part of a soul that makes a person human. Sasukeh has realized after a long time that he has lost his humanity. That he can feel humility and guilt, but the emotion ends there, and he can only act on his own selfish desires and wants. This doesn’t make Sasukeh inherently bad, only someone who was robbed of a part of himself. And this is the part that his human counterpart, Sasuke, has. The ability to be human, not just physically, but spiritually. And with it, the ability to love and care for someone wholly, not just for selfish reasons.
4. On ch. 17, who said: Hey, don't look like that. What's your name? "What is your name?"
(it's definitely from their very first encounter, right? Right!?)
It is, haha. That was Sasukeh.
5. Same chapter, why does Sasukeh think: “I love you. You poor, pathetic thing, I love
you. I feel so sorry for you. I'm so sorry for you. I love you.” I mean...this is not love, it's pity. What's happening?
It’s not so much pity as… pitiless love? Sasukeh can’t remember that when he first met Naruto, he was a vampire, but he remembers feeling so sad for him, for being alone, an outcast, a demon. And Sasukeh feels so bad that Naruto is continuously reborn because Sasukeh feels at fault for the misery Naruto is forced to go through across the years. It’s like Sasukeh’s objective view on Naruto’s soul, one that is forcefully hunted down and twisted through transformations, love, and hate.
6. Why did Naruto mean by “why, why, do you think I'm stupid?” Sasukeh is all clueless at first, and suddenly he's “oh, I get it!” while I didn't :( I mean, aside from the obvious “I feel angry and betrayed because I was kissed by someone who I thought was a friend”. I'm not sure if Naruto also meant “I was aware of your interest, I just didn't want to recognize it.”
Naruto feels stupid because he knows he’s painting himself into a corner by going along with Sasukeh, and he knows Sasukeh is taking advantage of him. My idea was that Naruto was just babbling at that point.
8. ZOMG I just noticed another detail, is Naruto from 1600 twelve-yrs-old?
Yup.
9. When showing him the old photo album, Sasukeh told Naruto that some people had treated him badly in the past, even if Naruto didn't remember. What happened?
In general, Naruto wasn’t very liked in London. He was very young, and very talented, and that aspired jealousy from his peers. Unlike current-Naruto, Naruto in London didn’t have a lot of friends. Sasukeh’s comment wasn’t meant to be very deep.
10. Theoretically speaking, could Sakura remember her past life too if someone told her about it?
I have a very shallow understanding of Sakura’s character, so I don’t know. Is she the type to believe in reincarnation? She’s always seemed more sensible to me. So… let’s say no.
11. Not really a question but, when Sasuke borrows Shino's cell phone at the airport: searching for the name 'Naruto' among the contacts is fine. Searching for the word 'home', on the other hand, is odd since it wasn't his cell.
I don’t know about phones in other countries, but in ours, there are different categories for names. For example, if you took Jasper’s phone and looked through his contacts, you’d find ‘Keith’. When you click on ‘Keith’, you’ll see a number for Home, a number for Cell, and a number for Work. See?
