FOR CHEERLEADERS What is a reverse bang?
A reverse bang is the opposite of a big bang. Rather than writers writing fanfiction and artists making art for it, it goes the other way around --reverse! The artists create art and the writers get to choose a piece of art to create fanfiction for.
How do I sign up?
When sign-ups start, there will be one sign-up post for artists (10.15.11 - 10.25.11) and one for writers (11.2.11 - 12.3.11). Just fill out the form in the sign-up post in a comment before the deadline and you're good to go.
Is there an age restriction?
Yes, and no. Anyone, of any age, who wants to participate may sign up. However, if you are under the age of 18 you will be required to restrict the rating of your work accordingly. LJ has strict policies regarding explicit content and minors, and the mods have no choice but to uphold those policies.
Where is the schedule located?
The KRB schedule is just about everywhere. There is a truncated version in the LJ profile and the LJ sidebar. Full versions can be found
in this post and
on the KRB Tumblr.
What's a check-in?
A check-in is a way for the mods to make sure you're on track with your submission. At this point you'll be asked to provide a preview or summary of your work. Each check-in will specify what we're looking for. If you miss a check-in, the mods will contact you to see if you're still participating. Check-in reminders will be emailed two days in advance. Don't worry if you're not as far as you should be! So long as you finish and submit by the deadline, it's okay. All check-in comments will be screened.
If I need to drop, where do I let you know?
Just respond to
this thread!
When is the latest I can drop?
You can drop whenever you need to, at any point in this fest. We're not going to force you to do anything. However, dropping two weeks or sooner before the deadline will result in disqualification from participating in the next year's fest. So, please, use discretion when thinking about dropping, and don't put it off until the last minute; dropping very late in a fest is generally not the nicest thing to do and leaves your claimer or claimee a little screwed.
Who tells my artist/writer that I've dropped?
You do. You absolutely must send your artist/writer an email or PM to let them know at the same time you let us know.
I've decided I need to drop from the KRB. Can I delete all of my comments in the comm?
No. Deleting comments for any reason is not allowed. If you want your comments taken off the comm, let us know and we'll screen them, then delete them after the year's fest is done.
I want to post previews of my art/fic early. Can I?
Any previews outside of the comm check-ins and related KRB comms are not allowed. Should we find that art or fic is being posted to personal LJs, websites, blogs etc. you will be disqualified from participation. The point of a fic or art fest is The Big Reveal -- when fandom is treated to a whole slew of new works all at once. Sharing your works ahead of time ruins the fun a little.
I can't find the answer to my question here. Help!
If what you need to know isn't in the FAQ, it may be located in the
Art Guidelines or
Fic Guidelines. And you can always ask us
here!

What are the requirements for art?
Artists should create 2-4 complete pieces of art, illustrations, digital manips, or fanvids (fanvids require only one piece, but if you want to do a set that's perfectly fine!). Illustrations and graphics should be no smaller than 800x600 per piece; fanvids should be at least 30 seconds long. Icons do not count as an art submission; however, they may be included to supplement the final product.
What sort of genres are allowed for my art theme?
Anything you can think of! Our only rule on themes is that we are not accepting crossover art for the 2011-2012 KRB. We may do those next year, but for now let's keep it to canon and AUs.
Where can I find my submission guidelines?
Right
here!
What is art theft? What is the KRB's policy on theft?
This means that participants found tracing or altering caps, other fanart, photos, etc. and claiming it as traditional or digital drawn art will be disqualified and banned from future participation. Participants banned for art theft will be posted to
art_theft with the evidence attached. We will never accuse someone of art theft or tracing without proof.
Do I need an LJ account?
All artists will be required to have/obtain a LiveJournal account, from which they can post (links to) their final works to the main comm when posting begins. For more information see
here.
Who is allowed to claim my art for fic?
Claiming will be a first come, first serve basis for art. If a writer is signed up for the KRB, they can claim it. There can be up to three writer claims per artist submission; we're doing it this way because, generally, there are always more writers than artists and we would like as many people who want to participate as possible to be able to do so.
How big should my thumbnails be for the art claim?
200x150 and must be safe for work.
Hey, I write too! Can I participate in both areas?
If you think you can handle it, sure! But artists who are also writing in the KRB may not claim their own art to write for.
Are you archiving my art?
All art will be uploaded to the KRB Imgur account so that we can post them in the art claim post, however it is up to the artist to post their work once the fest is over. After the fest is over any artist wanting their art taken off of the Imgur account need only ask. However, we do encourage writers to post their stories to
Fancy & the Fury. A classification will be set up there for reverse bang submissions.

What are the requirements for fic?
Your fic must be at least 7,500 words and go with the art you've claimed. No WIPs, sequels or previously written fic will be accepted.
I want to claim more than one art piece. Can I?
Not at this time. Should we get more artists than writers, we will probably change this policy and take out the 1:3 rule on art to fic, but for now writers may only claim one piece.
Can I have a co-writer?
You bet!
Where can I find my submission guidelines?
Right
here!
What is plagiarism? What is the KRB's policy on plagiarism?
From an academic standpoint, plagiarism is the copying without credit, whether intentional or unintentional, of another person's writing or ideas. In fanfic, this extends to, for example:
- the rewriting of a story from a different fandom with minor edits
- the copying of portions of dialogue from movies, TV shows, books, and other media
- the transcribing of an entire film into story form
- etc.
Writers who plagiarize will be disqualified and banned from future participation. Participants banned for plagiarism will be posted to
stop_plagiarism with evidence attached. We will never accuse someone of plagiarism without proof.
Will my fic be archived anywhere?
Archiving is at the writer's discretion. However, we do encourage writers to post their stories to
Fancy & the Fury. A classification will be set up there for reverse bang submissions.
What's the highest rating I can write?
All ratings are allowed in the KRB, however every artist will have rating preferences in their sign-up info. If you claim an artist's piece, do not write a higher rating than they specify a comfort level with.
How and when do I make a claim on art?
An art claim post will be put up on 12.10.11; there you may claim art in the correct comment thread. We do allow three writer claims per piece, but each piece must be claimed once before a second claim can be made and so on. All art will be rated accordingly and all thumbnails will be SFW.

What is a beta?
A beta reader (also spelled betareader, or shortened to beta) is a person who reads a written work, generally fiction, with what has been described as "a critical eye, with the aim of improving grammar, spelling, characterization, and general style of a story prior to its release to the general public." Generally, beta readers do some or all of the following:
- Check for spelling, punctiation and grammatical errors
- Help with characterization
- Fact checking
- Help with sentence structure and flow
- Check for plot holes, problems with continuity, characterization and believability of situations within the story
- Other critiquing
What is an art beta?
An art beta is a person who views an artist's work, critiquing it for the following, if necessary:
- Style
- Content
- Proportions and anatomy
- Realism
- Accuracy (for period pieces)
- Suggestions regarding coloring/shading, use of texture, placement of elements, blending, etc. They may also make suggestions regarding the use of stock images, both as references and in direct use in graphic art
Where do I sign up to be a beta?
A check-in post with information will be posted and linked here when it's ready.

What is a cheerleader?
A cheerleader is an individual who provides encouragement for people participating in challenge. This encouragement may be in the form of discussion posts, chats, or simply dropping comments for the artists and writers. Cheerleading is the perfect position for people who don't feel that they can participate in the reverse bang as an artist, writer or beta.
I want to be a cheerleader for the KRB! How do I make that happen?
No sign-ups are necessary --just an LJ! If you want to be a cheerleader in the vent comm, remember to comment
here when you request membership.
