Fuck V.D.

No, not venereal disease. I'm talking about one of the most commercialized, hyped-up, bullshit days of the year that is rumored to symbolize love. I have many reasons for despising this so-called "holiday" and will share them with you now ( Read more... )

I've always said that if you show the same affection for your s/o all year long, there's no reason to buy a bunch of useless crap just because the television told you to do so. Give your s/o an abundance of good sex and treat them with respect and you shouldn't feel pressured into doing anything differently on VD.

While I agree with what you're saying, I think there's also something to be said for having special occasions. Of course, letting society tell you when those are supposed to be is kinda lame, but that's about the level most people operate on. If a societally-mandated "romantic" day is the best some people are going to get from whoever they're with, I say go for it. This is said, of course, while turning a blind eye to the fact that our society whores the soul out of everything meaningful... but if it makes people happy, it can't be all bad.

ok, i could care less about flowers and chocolate, but i'll wear some new diamonds in a heartbeat. i'm still a girly girl and i love them.

i got a kitty cat snowglobe as a christmas present one year from a guy i had been with for almost 2 years. i don't like cats.

Amen sistah! I forget what it was, but there was some commercial on the other day that was talking about how much women love chocolate, how they just can't resist. Dude, PEOPLE like chocolate. I'm not really a big fan either, and I hate how it's always a "woman" thing...like so many things.

Also, Cory and I don't celebrate V.D. at all. Maybe because his b-day id 4 days later, and our "anniversary" and my b-day are the next month...although we both kind of forgot our "anniversary" last year!

So, here's me in total agreement that romance is just a farce if it's forced because of a certain date.

I heard about this on NPR the other day.

"Up to 40 percent of the chocolate we eat may be contaminated by slavery."
