Listening to a concert on the New Haven Green of the East Village Opera Company, kind of strange mix of Dream Theater/opera/queen/disco/Scissor Sisters, was an interesting experience. This simultaneously makes me want to laugh, cry, and commit mass murder. All who have suffered through the defilement of Earthsea (vomit internal organs... cue!) and Darklight know of this pain.
I read this article in the NY Times about our current president comparing World War II to the war in Iraq. This kind of bothers me in ways. Though any understanding of war is politically charged/culturally biased, I just don't see how you can compare the two. I think in many ways it might even be kind of insulting. We were playing a game, Quick Wit, in Strong Parlor on some night during graduation weekend. It was filled with wonderful phrases with the goal being to translate it to plain speech. These are common phrases/come from nursery rhymes. Anyone want to give it a go

Being tired and restless, I endeavored today to make seitan! Or mian jing (麵筋) as it's called in Chinese/namafu (生麸) in Japanese. It was surprisingly easy, though the reactant to product ration was maybe something like 5:1. Not much gluten was had after things were done. It seems tastyish. Buwahahaha! Been watching "Welcome to the NHK", an anime about hikokomori. Japanese folks that kind of become shut-ins due to a variety of reasons. Thought the lyrics were interesting...
I also realized today that Will (Orlando Bloom) in Pirates of the Carribean really does not have a body build which is classically associated with blacksmiths. Oh well.
I had a very strange, yet scrumptious baked good today. It's called Bert-and-Ernie Bar. The combination of cream cheese, peanut butter, and raspberry jelly was intense but not too sweet. Having this mixture sitting inside a buttery shortbread crust may have pushed it a bit over the top. The buttery flavor lingering in my mouth was quite enjoyable
