I really want to read Shopgirl, you'll have to tell me what you think of it.
I've recently enjoyed "The Year of Magical Thinking" (great!), "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" (depressing, but informative), and "Love in the Time of Cholera" (so beautiful).
This summer, I plan on reading "Possible Side Effects", "The Great Transformation", "Failed States", "The Little Friend", and "Light Before Day" (I support the gays even when they're not so great writers).
I thought Shopgirl the movie was dull (but once you read it, you'll realize why it never should have been turned into a movie and why Steve Martin should not play the character Ray Porter). It's a novella, so you can read it in a week (or a day). The plot is not that great, but I liked the internal dialogue. I was first turned on to his writing after seeing my friend do one of his plays, "The Wasp."
I need to hit up "Cholera" and Burroughs sometime.
