Well damn. I haven't heard the new album yet but I'm already a bit disappointed. I really liked Evolver though; it didn't even have to grow on me. One thing I will say, though, is while it sounds like they're just making more of the same radio-friendly reggae ballads, at least they didn't take a serious turn for the worse. Unless I totally hate this album (which I doubt I will), I'm still more impressed with 311 right now than with Incubus...ACLOTM was just embarrassing.

Oh well, that's just my take on it. Is the album still worth buying?

well seeing as u liked evolver so much im inclined to say yes, theres plenty of good songs on the cd, enough to make the album worth buying. it just surprised me that there are songs on the album that, in my opinion, are just pure crap, but the album altogether is still enjoyable

i don't like the new album very much either. it's good, but not 311 good.

i could go on, but i'd basically repeat everything you just said, but in broader terms. so i'll save you.

In broader terms, they're trying to mature and changing to a more mellow sound. This isn't the 311 we all know and love, we miss the wide variety of styles they put out. This album is a lot smoother sounding, just not as fast paced as i'd like it to be.

*shrugs*

what u said is all true, but its possible for a band to soften up and become more mellow and still produce quality songs, im just dissapointed at some of the songs on the cd

there were a couple moments where i thought i was listening to evolver outtakes. thank your lucky stars' chorus sounds like reconsider everything. there's always an excuse sounds like sometimes jacks. the riff in the middle of frolic room reminded me of the opening riff of a song that i'm STILL trying to think of the title of. MISDIRECTED HOSTILITY! god, finally, i've been trying to think of it since last night. anyway, it sounded to me like the whole album was written after the band sat down and listened to all their old albums through. you can liken each song to a different album/era of 311. the first listen didn't blow me away, but none of the first listens have. it'll grow on me, like all of them eventually have. (has yet to happen for music, though ( ... )

o man its to early for that question, i just got up but ill respond cuz i have to go to work in about 20 min. i still need to listen to it more intently to give it a just review, but ive heard it enough to say my piece. its still good'ol ben so i still like it, but like any artist as they get older hes lost the quality to his songs. the songs sound to similar, and its to much of the wussy ben signing and not enough ben awesome. dont get me wrong because i love ben's soft drawn out voice, but there was to much of the that in this album. the songs are to serious or just low key, but thats what happens when an artist gets older. ben's lost that crazy, fun and jazzy style to writing songs, not to mention the quality. i like the album, but compared to previous album's im not impressed.
