that's awesome! i sort of want lasik, but i'm afraid of that stuff being done to my eye, and i'm also curious as to the longterm side effects. let me know if your eyes fall out in ten years.

i've been told by many different people that there are no longterm side affects except for maybe wearing sunglasses more often or having dry eyes. and don't worry...you'll be the first to know if my eyes fall out in ten years.

no shit.. i'm totally with asian on this... i've seriously thought about it, but never really known anyone personally to have this done. love to hear about it after it's all healed and what-not.

i'll have an update for everyone in a couple weeks when all side affects are supposed to be over and done with. hopefully we'll all enjoy my results.

I didn't know you were doing this.

I've always heard they give you a shot right in your eye, which has always kept me away from it. Is this true?

Also, cost?

yeah, i guess i didn't really tell that many people about it before this post. i told my family and they freaked out a little, but my grandparents were totally freaked out by the whole idea.

there was no shot in the eye. where did you get that from? they give you a valium to help you relax and sleep after the proceedure. they rub iodine around your eye lids and give you various antibiotic drops. the laser is shot right in your eye, but your eye is numb from the drops by then. there's a weird sci-fi type laser noise sort of like two lightsabers hitting each other followed by a weird smell almost as bad as hair burning, but not quite. no shots in the eye though.

cost: $4,100

Someone who got the surgery years ago told me that. Since I'd never heard it again, I'd begun to suspect that they no longer do that. Which is good because that's the part I really can't handle, not the laser part. Valium helps too.

The price still seems a bit steep, but may be worth it. I should start saving now

First of all, awesome new pic!
Second, I had no idea ya were getting that done either. It had been my plan to have LASIK done next year (if it can be done on my eyes) and finally ditch the glasses and contacts. My biggest fears were, as others have said, the long term effects and cost (but you're a millionaire so cost ain't an issue :))
How's your night vision? I've heard a small percentage of the people get really bad halo-ing and fuzziness at night.
And just to scare people (including myself) a bit more, a scene from the Simpsons futuristic episode:
Bart: Wow, Mr. Flanders, how'd you go blind?
Flanders: I went in for that new trendy eye surgery. Seems right at the 10 year mark you just go blind.

so last night was the first time i'd ventured out of the house. i drove with no problems. there was no fuzziness and no halo effect.

This post makes me sad.

My eyes supposedly look like footballs or something and therefore I've been told I can't have this done.

Congrats though.

i'm sorry you can't get the procedure done. have you looked into having PRK instead or is that out of the question too?
