Wow, I think it has been almost 3 weeks since my last posting. Life, work, sickness, and art have consumed me. I am back on track though and have brought the good news that I GOT THE GRANT!

Spray finishing

I am racking my brain over how to spray finish these latest three large pieces while it is winter. I usually set something up outside but the process needs to happen in temps of 60 or above. I don't want to do it in my husbands studio because I don't want to get the over spray on everything in there. Mine is in the house, not an option. The ( Read more... )

Studio Tour

In celebration of completing a new wall mounted easel tonight I decided to give a studio tour. While my space is a small room in our house it has not been on the rehab list and so is still in it's original state of glory. Well I have been working some. Still not finished with these but they are for a barter with my chiropractor. I get pain free feet and she gets fish. This was a total learning process. I think I mostly learned I don't want to cut out anything this complex from acrylic glass again. Whew it was some work and a learning curve. I bought a scroll ( Read more... )

New framing experiment

I have been experimenting with ways to frame or present these larger plexi pieces. My initial idea was to use aluminum L brackets. After a pricing trip to home depot (average $13 for 8 ft.) So busy. I did finally finish the diptych but I am still laying on coats of gesso to the back. Then I need to figure out how to support and hang them. I know I should have thought of this before...but I have just been trying to work it all out in my head and it hasn't happened. Tomorrow I am going to pick up some well used acrylic sheets. I can't decide what to do next. I feel like the dark areas need more, but I can't decide if I want to tone them down more to show less business or add a hint of pale orange to pop them a little more. Any thoughts?

Large diptych in the works.

As promised here is my progress so far. These are 44 x 15 each (check out my shoes for scale). I planned them so they could hang with either one on top. Tonight I should be making progress on darkening the back sides. The blue and green borders are masking tape and will reveal a clear frame when I am finished.
