Synopsis: Cassie takes a job and ends up way over her head
"I told you she was smart," Sarah said as James watched the screen intently. "How long did you think it would take before she'd figure it out? It’s a good thing General Patton sent me to you or you'd be screwing up worse than you already are."
James gritted his teeth, but didn't say anything. He and the fearless doctor shared a history which nobody in the division knew about. A history he didn't want to remember, nor bring up. "She only found out about the first implant when she shifted but we already got the information we needed back then."
"Perhaps you've been going about this the wrong way," Sarah said.
"What do you mean?" James swiveled in his chair and faced her.
"You already have her DNA and we already know we can't replicate it which is why we need a continuous fresh source for the serum. Which is why we need her. You should have recruited her to the division years ago instead of hunting her. She'd make a better ally than an enemy. Surely you've noticed that James."
Swiveling back around James watched the screen. Sarah made a good point. The woman was resourceful, she worked well under pressure and she was clever. Why didn't he think of that sooner. And she obviously had some sort of charisma in order to get Seth to want to save her.
"Maybe you do have an idea and I'm open to suggestions but I don't know how we’re going to bring her over to our side, not after everything we've done to her," James admitted.
"Brainwash her, starting with the implant," Sarah motioned for James to move out of his chair. Quickly she typed a series of commands into the computer and activated the second implant in Rose's brain. "And what better way to brain wash her than to make her believe Seth is trying to kill her and not help her. We'll make it seem as if we were the good guys all the time. God James, you're a master at psychological manipulation, now show me why you've earned that reputation."
James pressed his lips together and watched the scene unfold on the computer screen.

Rose blinked as the second implant was activated. Her simpering tone changed as she swung her head towards Seth. "She's right, It’s an implant, but why don't you tell her the real reason you're helping her Seth. Tell her, right now, how you cut a deal with the devil, how you're just delivering her to save your own ass!"
“What the hell are you talking about?” Seth said.
Cassie blinked, the woman sounded so convincing she almost believed her. Was she telling the truth or was she lying. "Seth?"
"That's right, he's the bad guy here," Rose stepped in between Seth and Cassie leaving her more confused than ever.
“You can’t be serious? You’re going to believe her over me? Come on,” Seth said as he clenched and unclenched his fists.
Cassie glanced at Rose and then back to Seth. What she saw was unimaginable anger, and disgust, as if he couldn’t believe she’d even ask him if he was on her side. In fact, she couldn’t even imagine why she even had a tinge of doubt in her mind. The girl was so convincing she almost convinced Cassie that Seth was the bad guy.
“Of course not,” she snapped pushing past him and grabbing Rose by the throat as she pushed her up against the wall. “I trust you with my life,” she said trough gritted teeth pushing her face closer to Rose. “You can tell that son of a bitch that he can try and try and keep trying until the God Damned Cows come home but he’ll never get whatever it is he wants from me,” she seethed as she subconsciously used her ability on the woman.
“I can’t- my arm - it hurts, please stop,” Rose said.
Cassie was finding it hard to stop, especially since she knew Gysborne was trying to manipulate the both of them. Was he using this girl to come between her and Seth? If so, she knew Seth knock her unconscious and kill her. He knew her weakness. Why would she turn against the one person who risked his life to keep her out of the hands of Gysborne? Why would she turn on the one person who she risked her life as well?
“No,” she seethed. Once you cross a line, you cannot go back. A door shuts behind you and locks tightly and no matter how hard you yank on that door handle it just stays locked. She locked the door behind her when she used her ability to kill the agents in the parking lot back in San Antono. Although she wasn’t sure if Redemption was her new path, she knew she wasn’t ready to find out. “Let Gysborne fix this,” she whispered in her ear, stopping the blood flow to her main artery as she induced a heart attack within Rose. The girl could be innocent, or perhaps she isn’t, neither mattered to Cassie. As she watched Rose slowly slide to the floor clutching her chest while she suffered a minor heart attack, Cassie stepped backwards and turned towards Seth. “She’s one of them; she’s nothing but a tool for Gysborne and his sick twisted reindeer games.”
“Does that answer your question as to where my loyalty lies?” She said as she faced him. “You’re a good teacher Seth, I catch on quick,” she spun on her heel and ran towards the stairs, which would take them above ground.
“I just couldn’t believe you doubted me,’ Seth said as they ran outside.
When she finally came towards the door, which would lead them outside, she pushed it open, mildly surprised that it open easily and gave her no resistance. Shouldn’t it be locked or something? She wasn’t sure what time of the day it was since they’d been held captive, but when she stepped outside her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness.
She rested her hands on her head and looked around but all she could see were Jeeps across the way and hundreds of yards of dirt and sand. “Where in the hell are we?”
