First Tide Turning ☠ [action + marauding + voice]

Jul 23, 2011 15:17

Seems there's types about who'd make the village safe. Police; a village watch. They'll want prisons, next. A gallows.

Rather funny, that, considering the nature of the place, eh?

There's rogues about. Mind that; and if you can't, lock your doors.

Cut for action )

climbing in your windows, saqueador, a bit of piracy at last, snatching your people up

Nothing wrong with wanting to keep people safe. Though I don't think gallows will be built at any time.

Then you don't understand the people we're dealing with, poppet.

[There is no effort made to disguise his identity, this time.]

They'd have us all locked away, wouldn't they? All the pirate types would be twice-caged. Smoker, now---irrational hatred of all pirate folk, he has. He even threatened my monkey, once.

[Hakumen overheard Jack on the journal, but refused to answer the man. At least, not over a book. Something like this was best handled in person. So Hakumen set out to the village and eventually finds Jack around the bridge. For now he is only watching, though it shouldn't be hard to notice the 6 foot 9 giant.]

Your voice...you are the one who spoke on the systems of law in this land over the journals? Am I wrong?

Erm---not so much systems of law being proposed as an out-and-out military state, but aye; I made a bit of commentary. Color commentary. Why?

There's nothing wrong with trying to keep people safe, especially in a place like this.

And would you be the head of the police force, then, boy? There's no safety here. That's an illusion.

If it was necessary. I've got no problem with protecting people.

And you'd imprison all the pirates, I imagine? Commandeer their boats?

[After his conversation with Smoker, Gilbert now has some information about the pirate who ran off with his beloved hat. As such, he'll just be wandering on by the bridge on a regular basis in the hope of running into said pirate. Should he find this Jack Sparrow, well... he'll have something to say.]

[Jack Sparrow is WATCHING YOU, Gilbert, from the shrubbery at the far side of the bridge. WATCHING YOU INTENTLY.]

[Gilbert glances around, frowns, and stops in the middle of the bridge. He leans against the railing in a not-at-all-casual fashion and lights a cigarette, apparently not planning to leave any time soon.]

[From his hiding place, Jack takes aim with his pistol. His goal? To shoot that cigarette right out of Gilbert's mouth. Let's see if he comes close, shall we? BANG.]

... You, I'd think being safe would be a very good thing. I mean, a lot better than being dead, right? Or... you know, in constant peril. On fire. Crushed. Submersed in death water. Being shot at. Safety would rather mean never ever encountering... any of these things, right? S'good thing, isn't it?

... I mean, not unless maybe you're the type to like being on fire or something. I'm not judgmental. To each his own, I suppose!

[Jack has suffered...very serious burns in the past, when Beckett fired his Pearl and tried to send them both to the bottom. His left arm still bears the marks of that burn. He MOST DEFINITELY does not like being on fire, no, not at all at all.]

Being safe and dull makes you live longer, aye. But living in safety at all times isn't really LIVING, if you take my point.

[Oh good. They can both agree that fire is usually not a good thing]

I thought the definition of 'living' was... you know, fully existing and operating on a basic level on a daily basis? Not dead? The opposite of being murdered?

[Wheatley does not get]

I mean, I didn't think this definition was really up for redefinition.

[And the sad part is, he doesn't sound sarcastic]

I'm pretty sure, actually, that it is in the dictionary. Living: To live.

I avoid dictionaries at all costs, mate. Vile things. Prop up the coffee table with 'em, at need. Nah, what you've just defined is surviving, and that's all fine and good, but after that there needs to be more.
