Derrick and I have started a weekly tradition- Movie night. After the kids go to bed, we cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie. So far we've caught up on classics such as 40 year old virgin, Knocked up, The Holiday and this week's was In Her Shoes. On the docket is The Last King of Scotland and one other that I can't remember. Taken at face ( Read more... )

If your choice of movies makes you out to be unintelligent or shallow, then I am right there with you. I prefer fluffy, funny, or romantic movies as well. I don't like to watch heavy, serious movies because I generally think that life is too heavy and serious...and what is a movie if not an escape. There are certain films that are meant to be more art than entertainment (think: American Beauty) but often those leave me wanting more. Not that I'm a complete 14 year old when it comes to films, I liked "Traffic" and "Crash"...but mostly I'd rather watch "The Princess Bride")

Ugh- I Hated American Beauty- the seeming to make it Ok that the 40 yr old man had an affair w/ the pretty young 'under 18' thing just made me ill. Sensationalizing the affair in the movie made me feel like Hollywood was almost saying, hey you out there watching this film, it's OK! to do this.
There are some films that move me out of the category too - but for the most part Bring on the Fluff! Makes me feel better you are right there b/c you are a smart individual so that you like the same too, makes me feel better!

We can all be unintelligent and shallow together, then, cause I don't watch "thought-provoking" movies. If I want to think about something or learn from my TV then I will watch Discovery Channel, History Channel, or the like. I definitely use TV and movies as an escape. Isn't it all supposed to be about entertainment?

I loved Stardust by the way. I want to buy that. I also want to see The Golden Compass.

Blessings and Love till Later!

fluff movies are the best - and cheapest life coping mechanism ever. have to love the escape. i love thought provoking ones too but if i am feeling at all blah or bleh or blaise they are totally not for me that day/week/month whatever. unless i need a good cry but usually for that i re-watch sliding doors or steel magnolias ;)

yup, for a good cry it has to be Sliding Doors or Steel Magnolias...or maybe Beaches.

I know I am late joining this conversation, but I totally agree that life is too serious and movies should be fun. Hello - can you say Billy Madison!? It does not mean we are too stupid to appreciate Oscar movies. It means we are smart enough not to waste 2 hours of our lives.
