1. The ability to just see unread mail.

2. The option to have the small little popup that appears when tracking a message to JUST go to my email and not my LJ Inbox, perhaps as a default you can set. I send most things to my email and only kink meme fills that I want to read later to my LJ Inbox, but if I forget to go into options and uncheck LJ Inbox I get HUNDREDS of emails in there I've already read.

Re your #2 there -- I understand what you're saying, but am having trouble finding an example of where you see the little pop-up box you're talking about. Every time I click a 'track this link' for an entry or comment, I actually get taken to the full-blown subscription page for that icon (not a pop-up).

So, for example, if I were to click to track your comment that I'm replying to, I am taken to: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/subscriptions/comments.bml?talkid=3327658&journal=lj_feedback

So, my whole point here is -- can you refresh my brain with a specific example of where clicking a track link gets the pop-up and not the page redirect? Thank you!

Hmmmm, it used to be that when you would hover over the pushpin you would get a little yellow box that popped up where you could just click Track or you could click the little "Options" box and it would take you to the full blown tracking page. I'm not seeing that anymore though.

I get the redirect to that link if I track an individual thread, or post in a comm using the newer layouts. But if I go to track a whole post on a comm that uses custom css to get the subject lines back -- like this post I get the little pop-in box when I hit track. I actually prefer the pop-in, as you can track without leaving the page you're reading.

Are we going to have to switch to that new friends feed in order to enjoy changes to the inbox? Or are the "improvements" for everyone? You know in order to enjoy the "improvements" of the scrapbook we have to have that new friends feed? Is this the same situation?

You'll still be able to use the old style Friends page even after any updates are made to the Inbox page.

I can't use the old-style Friends page right now - ever since the last batch of major changes I've been compulsorily diverted to the new-style 'feed', even if I edit the URL manually to point back to the old page.

I like the private aspect of the inbox, but hate that the messages are quoted in full each time and that it becomes very cumbersome with only a few interchanges between two people. I would love to be able to set up file cabinets for different types of messages so that I could clear my inbox and have the messages I want to keep in a much less space-consuming semi-permanent location. That's where I want LJ friend addresses and a few long-term conversations that I need to keep on record. I waste more than 100 messages on these things that are semi-permanent.

Ability to specify notifications as email-only, so I don't need to delete then twice in 2 different places.

Do you mean you want to turn off Private messages to your inbox, as well as all the other notifications?

Hmm. For consistency, it would be good to have that option for those as well, although I'd probably keep them inbox-only as they currently are.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing. All notifications, events, subscriptions, etc... can already be set to e-mail only except for Private Messages. PMs have to arrive in the LJ inbox, though they can also be sent via e-mail or IM.

There is a secret technique to turn off PMs in the LJ inbox. If you're interested I'll send you a PM about it.
