How to shop at Costco when heavily medicated (based on recent personal experience):
1) Take meds and wait for them to kick in.
2) Find bus. Ride bus. Exit bus at correct stop. Be surprised at getting it right the first time.
3) Find cart. Find neat stuff. Look all over the store. Repeat in case you missed something shiny. What were you doing again? Better try once more, just in case.

I grew up using "Happy Holidays" as a shortcut for "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." Now that
I'm all experienced and enlightened, I'm all about being inclusive and crap, so "Happy Holidays" is a great shortcut for "Merry Whatever You May or May Not Celebrate on or around the Winter Solstice and a Happy New Year if You Follow the Gregorian ( Read more... ) -

Living in Los Angeles, I've become reasonably adept at recognizing our local buses. I often notice them in movies, driving in the background. Very often, these movies are not set in L.A. Goodbye, Anne.
Anne McCaffrey was the second F&SF author to capture my imagination (Andre Norton was the first). Her Pern novels so captured my imagination that I devoted years to PernMUSH in what was possibly my longest stretch of regular activity on anything real world or not (AmberMUSH was second).
I will miss her. -
NaNoWriMo Update
I am proud to announce I have not written a single wrong word in my novel. [It's probably not too difficult to figure out which one word you could delete from that sentence and have it 1) not be any less grammatically correct that it already is and 2) be a true and more accurate description of my progress. :) ] -

Today, Elder Son brought home a note from school. The note says he is "the 2011 winner of The New Journal of Student Research Abstracts' Best Aviation or Aerospace Abstract for your entry titled 'Effect of Added Weight on Helicopter Ascension.'"
