Over in philosophy, there's been a classic old argument going on the relationship between the external world and internal qualia, with a bit of a diversion into neuroscience.

The American Psychological Association finally do something right.

They should've done it years ago, but better late than never. And the wording of the letter itself is impressively blunt; good on 'em.

It looks like the creationist morons are planning to launch a raid on the cognitive sciences...

(but on a brighter note, the program for this year's Woodford will be released tomorrow...)

Now that the thesis is submitted, I'm busily writing up my PhD applications. But I'm still dithering over exactly what I'm going to be doing. I did my Honours year in Psych, but my Science Bachelorate had a second major in the History and Philosophy of Science (HPS). I'm glad I didn't discover this until after my thesis was finished. Lotsa fun, though...

Thesis submitted, a day before the deadline.

Now alternating periods of intense relief with sharp shocks of fear that I should've done something more somewhere. Hopefully the second part will ease off over the next few days...

Just a couple of Phd applications to do, and then I don't have to think until 2009.

Three weeks until the thesis is due; less than a month and it'll be all over.

I think I'm going to spend November asleep on a beach.

PS: Have a lookie over here for some piccies and such from my brother's new school (at a small Aboriginal community near Kakadu called Gunbalanya). He's doing well; I'm feeling quite proud of him...
