I feel similarly. All i wanna do is have a bike and a little pot garden for herbs and peppers and beans, and some scrap paper to doodle on. Linger in little coffee shops and narrow magazine stores. Get free food from art openings, and cook delicious chili. Live in a cute old dump of a house that I can slowly make beautiful again with paint and knicknacks. (and have a sweet, massive, beautiful studio in Manhattan. But that can stay in the "fantasy" category for a few more years.) And, I totally think that people feel dumber everyday, mostly because they keep finding more things they don't know about, and realizing they have A LOT of reading to do and life experience to get. Which I absolutely relate to.
i feel like the smarmy preachy west-coaster too! i basically have made the rule for myself not to talk about issues or anything like that. being vegetarian is bad enough!
ohhhh yeah. i don't think my family even listens to me anymore. however, on the other hand, after i've been there for 2 weeks i cave horribly. driving everywhere, eating badly, going to the mall for fun, blockbuster movies... irresponsible consumption... its just so easy.....!
