It's a beautiful day for a bike ride. I've been hiding from the cold and using my trainer for far too long. Today it's sunny and not freezing so I finally get to go outside again. It felt a bit weird at first. I was reclined more than usual since my trainer lifts the rear wheel up by about 3 inches. I'm also breaking in a new pair of shoes. ( Read more... ) -

I went out for a very pretty ride today. 41.5 miles. It was a bit cold, but mostly sunny so it was nice. All sorts of critters were out enjoying the spring as well. Ducks, rabbits, geese, lots of other birds ( Read more... ) -

I took another step forward with my bike trip. I've got a series of posters up with my basic route and most dates listed. I've already got the route as a spreadsheet with mileage and everything else, but I think it will be more fun to visualize it this way. Plus it adds some badly needed decoration to my sitting room.

Bike packing
I gathered up the stuff I have for long distance touring today, and tried packing it all up. Surprisingly, everything fit into two panniers and a trunk. While I don't have every last thing packed, I do have the majority of it piled up here, especially the bulky stuff. I've been sick for the last couple of days, so I used the time to catch up on the big pile of travel books I've got. In addition to learning about a few new places to hang out along the way I discovered that there exists a special type of airline ticket just for people flying around the world. I started using Google Earth to map out the routes I plan to take. It's my first time using it for anything more complicated than finding directions or tourism, but so far it looks like it will be of use. I'd planned on using laminated poster sized maps for this, but it's been difficult to find all of the maps I'd need for that. Instead I'll use ( Read more... )
