Well, it was part of the challenge. And I figure he might try to get it back with Sirius after the two remeet in PoA. Feels like a sequel to me.

Lovely and sad, and I love your Remus. Just the right amount of angst. And I really like the image of Dumbledore in a diner.

I'm glad you thought the angst wasn't too excessive or cheesy. And doesn't Dumbledore seem like the kind of man who would travel to another country just to eat some pie?
