My sister finally left her asshole boyfriend. Along with his usual anger issues, he's taken up drinking. Dad's hernia surgery went very well, though it sure got off to a slow start. We had to be there at 6:30, for an 8am operation. We were there at 6:10. They brought us back about 7:30. And then we waited and waited and waited ( Read more... )

So, my dad's hernia surgery will be this Wednesday, first thing in the morning. Supposedly it's a ten day recovery period, and he can't drive for the first five. People I know who have had the surgery say it's longer than that, and that it's really painful, too. I guess I'm going back to full time dad care. I'd really like some time off from ( Read more... )

So, my dad will definitely need hernia surgery, sooner rather than later. He's seeing his cardiologist tomorrow to discuss it. He needs to be off the blood thinners for 5 days before he can have the surgery. It's an outpatient procedure, takes about an hour. They sew in a piece of mesh to block the hole, basically. Things have been going really well here. After a slow start, Dad is healing amazingly well. His doctors, nurses and physical therapists are all really impressed. This is the second weekend he's spent in Miami with his girlfriend. Also, my sister and Skylar were visiting us for a week as well. She's such an amazing baby, so happy and smart. ( Read more... )

Dad's getting good reports from his cardiologist and his surgeon. Both are pleased with his progress. It's slow going. He can't get comfortable at night; I have to come in and adjust his pillows a bunch of times, because it's hard for him to change position. Getting out of bed takes him a half hour, he says. Or, rather, my father is finally home. He's tired and moving slowly, but he's here. He's already in better spirits, that's for sure. I think his girlfriend is going to drive up from Miami to see him tomorrow. That will be a nice treat for him.

Dad was all set to be released from the hospital yesterday when they decided it against it at the last minute. The internist was worried about a chest X-Ray result. Dad's been coughing a lot, and they were worried he was getting pneumonia. It's not pneumonia, yet, was the diagnosis. He has to spend 24 hours on IV antibiotics before he can come ( Read more... )

He's doing really well. They moved him out of the ICU and into a regular room this evening. They would have done it earlier, but there were no available rooms.
