to IUD or not

I'll admit that I might have hypochondriac tendencies. (serialkarma commences hysterical laughing). I don't run to the doctor for every little sniffle though, cause I really don't like going to the doctor at all. I'm the type of hypochondriac who gets a headache and immediately thinks I have a brain tumor, but doesn't get it checked out because of the ( Read more... )

My monogamy is safe and intact! I can barely keep up with Tech, much less juggle someone else, good lord.

I like the idea of the copper IUD simply because I'm REALLY leery now of anything with hormones in it, but it's good to know all this! And my worry about it slipping is something you answered with the strings -- so it's good to know that I can check that as often as I want.

Ohhhh so many decisions. All to keep that sperm away!!

This is EXACTLY what happened to me when I was 25 and took the pill for three months. One month into it I started tingling, six weeks into it I developed migraines three or four times a week. At two months I couldn't see straight. After about 10 weeks another doctor - not my gyno - told me to STOP IMMEDIATELY. I did. But those fucking pills changed my body chemistry, and I developed hypertension, which I still have more than twenty-five years later, and migraines, which did not go away until I turned 50. I ended up with the diaphragm, which is messy but since I wasn't in a permanent relationship, it was manageable. I do not envy you your choices, dear. But I have to say I am mightily surprised the Pill is still doing such things - you should never have been given that dosage.

*flails* YES, that's EXACTLY what happened to me, except mine -- BAM, came in three short weeks. And you know what, Shay, it WAS a low dose pill, one of the lowest out there. I think my body just reacts strongly to medicine, or anything that alters it, but anyway, in a way I'm happy that this isn't an option because the IUD seems much more natural. Or as natural as a long term birth control option can be, I suppose.

GAHD, the trials we go through JUST TO GET LAID. (responsibly)

Yeah, she talked to me over the phone about the concerns with giving women who haven't had kids yet the IUD and I think it has something to do with the chances of it being expelled. In any event, she is pro-IUD for me, so I'm going in next week to talk to her about it some more. From what everyone else here has said, it looks like this might be a great option for me, especially if I get the copper on with no hormones.

Yay hormone free!! I'd never even *considered* an IUD; I can't believe how many people on my flist have one.

Hi -- you don't know me, but I was flist surfing and saw this. I had horrible, horrible reactions to the pill when I took it back in the day. I had the Mirena IUD for a year, and had some of the same problems I had with the pill -- migraines, weight gain, water retention, crabbiness. The worst thing, though, was that on the IUD my blood pressure went from 118/80 to 145/95. So, I had the Mirena taken out and feel much better. Obviously, my experience was because of my own body chemistry, but if you had problems on the pill, I'd be careful about another hormone-based bc method. If I had it to do over again, I'd try the copper IUD.

I am definitely leaning toward the copper IUD, thank you for sharing your experience!
