Stolen People Project

I stole this idea from someone who stole it from someone else. I liked it and think that I might give it a whirl. Below is the quote from the original thinker. I am going to modify it just a little just as the person whom I stole it from did ( Read more... )

Connie was one of my dad’s girlfriends. She had shoulder length bleached hair. After every shower she would sit at the kitchen table and blow dry it, brushing the sides into feathers and then using about a can of hairspray to fortify through the worst hurricane. A very 80s look. She wasn’t ugly but she wasn’t beautiful either. She had two bratty sons around my sister’s and my age. I wanted to hate her. But even my mom seemed indifferent to her. So in time I came to like her. I was even a little sad when they broke up.

Kromar was a guy I met in Adria, but that’s not his real name. I’m not sure I knew his real one. He was interesting to say the very least. Aside from his general filth and the fact that he lived at home, he carried around a dirty smelly large puppet everywhere he went. He talked to it and made you interact with it as if it were a real person. There were even rumors of a “Furry” love affair. Once at a party, my very drunk friend almost took off the guy’s hand because “It kept staring at me!”

I met Beth in Adria also. She was a very opinionated Pagan who read cards over the phone for $0.99 a minute. She was loud and crude and often very funny. My most vivid memory of her was at the Fallbrook Renaissance Fair. Saturday morning Beth comes out of her tent wearing the infamous “bunny suit”. Basically a bikini made of rabbit fur with a flap over her butt that didn’t quite cover the g-string below when the wind kicked up just right. She made it herself. I remember being so proud and so appalled all at the same time.

Carol was my sixth grade teacher. In later years I would “help out” with grading, lesson plans and tutoring. Eventually I started working with her full time and I came in every day with her. She was the most amazing teacher I have ever had. She inspired me to teach and also vehemently talked me out of it as a career. It was extremely sad when she started to burn out. It was a great opportunity for me but I was sad to see her lose the joy she once had. I learned a lot from her.

Leann was my mom’s boss at the day care center I practically grew up at. She was a nice enough person but always seemed to look down on us. She was very matter-of-fact in everything she said and did. When I was caught shop lifting I remember she seemed to be more disappointed in me than anyone else. When I got older I used to go in and see her occasionally just to say “Hi. How are you? See, I didn’t turn out to be a druggy welfare mom”. I think it was fun for everyone.
