Birthday present => new Lee/Kara Music Video: Lift

Oct 12, 2008 16:49

This is the day brokenmnemonic was born, the day the world became one good man richer :)

Happy Birthday my dear friend! I wish you to have a wonderful day! Remember how much you are loved and appreciated and to quote a famous song's lyrics - don't worry, be happy! :)

As a matter of fact, I didn't send you anything by mail - I wanted to give you this video as a ( Read more... )

This is so beautiful! I have only watched in YouTube because Axifile is not being my friend. :( I'm sure it would be even shinier in download.

It's an amazing vid--you should be so proud! I'm going to have to watch it a lot more to take it all in. It soars so powerfully--like the pilots themselves.

the problem was I simply didn't have enough knowledge of vidding techniques to tell the story the way I wanted to, emphasise some points, so that it would get argumentative and passionate enough, in other words - make the work worthy to my own eyes.
Awww, I know that feeling so well. I am SO glad that you finally tackled this (and greatful to brokenmnemonic for creating the final impetus for you to do so!)

the vid is about 6 minutes length, which is also way too much by any standards.
Hee! Congratulations! I am glad to have company in the club of over-six-minutes vidders. (I haven't made one in BSG but I have made one for another fandom.) Be proud! I did not feel the six minutes at all.

And moreover, it’s the first video I’ve ever created that has ( ... )

Thank you! :) I've uploaded the vid to Sendspace for you and added the link. Please let me know if you have any problems downloading it - I wouldn't want you to watch it in less than good quality.

People seem to really enjoy watching it, so I am proud :) Proud of the way I approached some of the key moments in storytelling, of the gyrate narrative that goes deeper in and then in the reverse sequence to make a point; and also of the technical stuff, for instance - the music subsiding a bit in the beginning (the second when Lee's Viper goes into the tunnel) and then going up again with Viper's motion when it flies free (I really like it because it's the first time I experimented with audio clip like this and I think it adds the feeling of presence). But don't mind me, I could go on about this video forever because almost every second of it was ( ... )

Thank you so much for uploading the shiny version to sendspace. I know it's taken me ages to come back and comment but I really appreciate it. It has allowed me to watch the vid much more fully, to immerse myself in it ( ... )

Thank you so much for uploading the shiny version to sendspace.

Anything for you, dear :) I'm VERY glad you enjoyed the shiny version, that's the way the picture quality should be, it would've been even better had I been more into encoding specifics and nuances - but that's just the most boring part in vidmaking process for me. I always have to sort of talk myself into approaching codec settings installations after finishing my project out of sheer necessity. If I could, I'd skip the exporting and encoding parts altogether :)

This vid breaks my heart so early with its 'comes out awry' line. I've seen so many Kara fans dismiss that moment in the greater scheme of their romance, but I always found it really heartbreaking. You know this period of time in vidmaking when you haven’t even started working with footage material in your software, you’re just listening to the song and trying to absorb it all, see some shots as clearly as possible in order to be able to use them as your milestones further, right? Well, the clearest vision I had ( ... )

I'm not going to be able to do justice to this vid - not yet. I need a day to sit and think and try and write coherent - and with my parents visiting and the decorating going on, I can't do something so personal. Not yet.

I've been getting up early - or staying up late, as is the case tonight - to sneak in a few minutes online, and a chance to watch your vid over again. I've never seen anything like it before - it's a truly staggering piece of work. I can't imagine the strength of creative vision paired with ability you combined to produce this, but I don't think I'll ever see a better BSG vid - let alone a better Lee/Kara vid.

There's a certain irony in you being one of the last people to watch it, but I don't mind in the slightest, really :) As long as you're enjoying, as long as it makes you feel keenly and ignites some thoughts - I consider I did my job. I hope I managed to cheer you up at least a bit with this video and that you had a great Birthday.

No problem Ed, I told you like a million times you don't have to worry or feel pressure. :) I'm really happy to share this with you either way.
Enjoy your parents' company while they're with you and helping; working together decorating and such things always unite the family overall even if there are some disagreements in personal preferences for colors or ways of arranging interior attributes. :)

I've never seen anything like it before - it's a truly staggering piece of work.Thank you :D I ( ... )

Here via Beyond_Insane and wow. This is just...wow, a real work of art. I love it to pieces! And I think I understand your point about not being ready to make the video for so long. Like Anastashial and her figure skating, I started riding dressage (sort of like dancing, but with horses) a few years ago and I can't even begin to think about riding to music yet because I see so much in the songs, but don't yet have the finesse to do them justice. You certainly did here, and should be very proud :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I'm so glad it seems to have every potential to become one of the favorite vids for many people in the Lee/Kara fandom.

Oh I know what you're talking about, I love horses and riding, watch dressage and jumping sometimes, but I can't quite be a part of that world because of the birth defect of my lower spine that doesn't allow me to withstand heavy duty required in riding. So I kinda envy you :) Still, way to go!, it's wonderful that you keep trying and always see something to work for.

Thank you muchly for watching and commenting! I'm very glad you like the song, because personally I think half of this video's charm may be in the song; it has such a tight narrative and it's very graphic passionate and succulent.

I guess my love for both characters needed to find release in such form. And the results of the work I put into this vid are actually gratifying. :)

I love the way you combine the tense string buildup of the tune beginning with fractured, incomplete black and white imagery, focussing on the cage and Lee's hands - I already knew at this point I was in for a hell of a ride with this vid ( ... )

I particularly like the way you sow images of Lee, battered and bruised physically in colour on the right with images of Scar in grey and white and black, only to shift back to images from Scar in colour with monochrome images inset.

Oh, that “moving circles day to day” moment was one hell of a sequence to make. I think I got frustrated with it and shrugged it off twice or three times, then made myself come back again and again to change things and some elements to make it work.

I don't know how much of that is the chromakey extraction you did to pull the images out, and how much is intentional - but it works beautifully.

I pulled the images out and made them flow one after the other using motion effect, edge feather, opacity and some of the others but there’s no chroma key applied there.

I’m very glad you like this sequence and black and white manipulations! :) Every single second of it is thought-out and intentional.

There's a shot around 1:21 of Kara dancing with Baltar, but looking away - I've not really looked hard at it ( ... )
