Of all the people she was expecting to see, a young boy was not one of them. She had never been good with children, lacking that maternal instinct that seemed prevalent in so many women. He didn't look particularly alarmed--or injured--so there was a slim chance that maybe he lived in this place.
"Are you lost?" She asked softly after a moment, relaxing her posture so she wouldn't come off as quite so frozen as normal. Even children could be dangerous. She knew that all too well.
Injuries were good when people couldn't really see them. It made them worry less.
Akito glanced at the woman and smiled a little. "I guess so. I've been here for awhile, but I don't know where this place is," he replied, turning to face her and resisting the urge to rub his shoulder. "I arrived here awhile ago. About five days, though it hasn't been night yet."
"Five days?" He'd been trapped in this house for that long? Her eyes lingered on those bright locks of his for a moment, wondering who on earth would let their child dye their hair like that, but dismissed it after a moment. "You've found food and water, at least."
There was a smile for his words, but it was absent, almost distracted. "I don't think anyone does just yet. What's your name?"
Fun fact, natural hair colour. Akito hadn't touched hair dye in his life, his brother would've killed him. "Yup! There's stuff in the kitchen, enough that you don't go hungry, but some of it looks weird." At least it tasted okay. He still wasn't touching that stew pot though. Too creepy.
He nodded agreement at her words. "I'm Akito, Akito Wanijima," he replied easily. His other was stirring, but the light didn't bother to wake him up fully. No real need right now.
That earned a pause. "And it's fresh?" It had to be, for him to survive for five days. Perhaps someone here knew how to cook, but they had to have found fresh ingredients.
"Alright, Akito. My name's Ada. Have you met anyone else in this place?" He'd been here much longer than she had. Longer than Leo, too. He might know something useful.
"Yeah. It's strange, but it's like it was all brought in yesterday or something." He'd never seen anyone putting food in there, but when he got hungry and went to eat, there was always plenty.
"It's nice to meet you, Ada-san," he replied politely. "I've met a few other people, yup. There's at least half a dozen other people here, maybe more."
"Hmm. Sounds like someone's generous," She murmured, but the true meaning of her words was less than kind. So this was a game to someone, somehow. The honorific he attached to her name caught her attention for a moment, and she studied him a bit more closely. Japanese? Maybe.
"Half a dozen...? I've only met one." The spy shook her head to herself, exasperated. The mansion must be bigger than she first assumed. "Akito... What happened to your eye?" A direct change in subject, but she was curious.
He heard that but chose not to comment on it. Generous maybe, but he couldn't help but wonder why someone was making sure everyone was alright. And who exactly it was.
The light hummed and thought for a moment. "I've met..." Hizashi, Mello, Ed, Nina, Ricardo, Eight... "Six people, and I think I've seen others." A small amount of people, but that was alright.
The sudden topic change made him blink though. "My eye?" Oh, the eyepatch, duh. "Nothing, actually," he replied with a smile. "My right eye's fine." He showed this by carefully getting the patch off with his left hand alone and opening his right eye. The slit pupil focused, but while the right eye was a brighter gold than the left, it seemed dull at the moment. Agito was asleep. "It's Agito's eye, so when I'm in control, I keep it covered up so he can sleep if he wants to."
Nina again--she'd heard that name from Leo. Another child. What was the point? It wasn't adding up--and that was something that ruffled her feathers.
As the boy unexpectedly pulled the eye-patch off, her eyes widened with surprise. That... wasn't a human eye. Couldn't be. It almost looked like a cat. She held her tongue for a moment, processing. Was Agito his imaginary friend? No--'control' sounded suspicious.
"Can I ask who Agito is? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Sometimes kids got wildly possessive over adults prying into their affairs. She could relate.
The surprise from Ada was typical enough that Akito wasn't bothered by it. People usually acted strange to Agito's eye. The light just thought it odd, since before Agito was 'born', both his eyes had looked like Agito's. It was Akito's eye that had changed when the dark had been born, although his was brighter than it had been...hm.
"Agito's my other half," Akito replied easily. "Both he and me live in this body. When the right eye's showing, Agito's in control. He's asleep at the moment though."
A split personality? Or was this something common in his world? Either way, Ada only nodded thoughtfully, as though Akito had just said something completely normal. "I see. Will you wake him up if you keep talking to me?" If so, she might as well just move on. The last thing she needed was to trigger some sort of mental distress.
Huh. Normally he was used to having to explain even further at that. People normally didn't take him and Agito for granted like that.
"I doubt it, he was awake for awhile yesterday," the light replied with a shrug. "He'd only wake up if he felt that I was alarmed or scared, in case he needs to protect me. But it'd be okay even if he did wake up. He'd just watch and talk to me sometimes." Akito was very aware of what his other did and was happy that they were together. Agito helped him think sometimes.
So it was a split personality--except Akito was somehow conscious of it. "Like having a friend with you all of the time," She didn't know much about the disorder, but sometimes those sorts of things were triggered by traumatic incidents, weren't they? Well, with luck, he wouldn't need protecting.
"Yup! That's me and Agito~" Agito was his closest friend, and the light didn't know where he'd be without the dark. Akito hated the thought of living without his other half.
Scared? Hm... "A little. It was really weird, just arriving here out of nowhere." And that creepy girl... "But I'm sure that there's a way out of here. Agito will protect me, and there can't not be a way home," he added. Akito didn't believe that it was impossible to get home. That wasn't possible, right? Everywhere had a way out.
Ada's lips thinned momentarily, but she nodded all the same. "It was weird, wasn't it," Not so much a question as much as she was musing to herself. "We'll find a way out. Every place has an entrance and an exit. You just have to look a little harder to find it, sometimes."
Her smile was more genuine then. He didn't need to worry. She simply couldn't accept that there was a chance they'd be stuck in here for good. It didn't make sense.
"Yeah!" He nodded happily at that. "There can't be a way out. Otherwise there'd be a lot of people here, and it'd be really crowded." That would be uncool. Although now he was giving himself some slightly scary mental images of what happened when those people died...

Ada didn't believe much in luck.
