How do you like being a child welfare assistant? I'm recently applying to a lot of jobs with the state and it's on the list. I hear it can have a high turnover rate, as it's more of a calling than a career, much like teaching.

I look forward to reading some of your work!

I love being a CWA. It's heart breaking, and you see SHIT day in and day out. If you're a soft touch, it can break you. But it's a necessary job. It's a good job. You can touch and change lives. It is definitely a calling, because the hours are longer than planned more often than not, and it takes a heavy emotional toll, but I do think it's a worthwhile job, and the benefits are great. It's not a job I would recommend for everyone, but it is a good job, and if you think you can handle what you'll see and hear, and love those kids for the few moments that you're in their lives, and are good at multi-tasking and prioritizing, it may be worth looking into. There is a higher turnover rate, and a the burn out rate for CPS in general is 2-4 years. But there's lots of room for promotion. Let me know if you end up going that route! I'd love to share some of my tips and tricks!
