Iran

I have two questions.  # If the Mousavi supporters were to refuse to participate in the Iranian economy, stop going to work, to school, to shops, stop taking public transit, etc.  Would it topple the current government?  Would it be a way to show the actual number of Mousavi supporters versus Ahmadinejad supporters and prove the election a fraud? It looks like Amnesty International has organized a campaign, but you have to get an account through their website to become involved. I'm a member of Amnesty International Canada and try to participate in letter-writing campaigns whenever I can. I don't think I've received anything in the mail about the situation in Iran, but I'll doublecheck just in case. If I find an address where you can send letters, I'll let you know.

I belong to Amnesty International USA, and I've been sending emails to the addresses they provide as well as signing petitions. I just feel helpless I guess. A Young woman from Iran got through to CNN and was pleading for help. It was hard to listen and do nothing. I want to comfort at the very least and I can't.

It's hard not to feel helpless, especially when you hear from the people affected most. I think your idea of contacting the U.N., CNN and/or Change.org is a good one.

I agree that Amnesty International is the way to go to help and support the Iranian people. I also wonder if the Red Cross is allowed to go in and help the people who are injured.

I doubt they'd let the Red Cross in. I'll try to find an email address for the U.N. maybe with enough pressure they'd step in with medical assistance at the very least.

National striking is how the Shah got toppled, so I'm saying, could be. I just hate to think of actions the government might take against its' people, though.

Last night, Jon Stewart asked the son of a reformer who had been arrested and taken to jail from his hospital bed what we could do (and by the way, he got sicker in jail and they took him back to the hospital where, this 70+ year old man is recovering from surgery with an armed guard, lest he escape) BUT, the son said write to Iranian Embassies (of course, we don't have one) but write to whomever you can find an address for an ask why? why are you arresting your people for peacefully demonstrating, why, why. Inundate them with the knowledge that the world is watching and very concerned.

Thanks for the information. I'll write to CNN or Change.org and see if they can give ussome addresses.
