A plot hole in "The Menagerie": couldn't captain Pike have used morse code?

I seem to have a girlfriend now. I find this a bit surprising, though certainly not unwelcome.

In reading Tolkien lately, I've realized that the Silmarillion isn't really fantasy, in the sense that I usually think of it; it's more alternate history. I love weddings; receptions are usually fun (this one was reasonably nice); it's coming home to an empty apartment that I haven't learned to handle. Maybe there's wisdom in getting drunk at the party after all...
