Because of a new episode-aftermath Deanna Gray story that was posted on the Archive, I watched Gamesters of Triskelion a few days ago. I had seen the weird-looking green-haired girl in the blooper reels, but when watching the actual show the first thought that came to my mind - and wouldn't go - was how amazingly this character - Shahna - reminded me of Lady Gaga.
< Shana Lady Gaga >
I mean, it's all there, right? Weird puffed-up hair, big wide eyes, pointed face...
What do you say? Yay? Nay?
Another similar comparison leaped at me the other day when I was reading an article about Zachary Quinto's new hair cut, and they showed pics of his old haircut. It suddenly struck me how much he reminded me of Xavier Dolan, a local young cinematographer and actor whose last movie I had seen a few days prior, Les Amours Imaginaires. OK, Zach is a good decade older and maybe the likeness wouldn't be as flagrant without their similar glasses and haircut, but again, there's something there.
Zach
Xavier Dolan
And funnily enough, Dolan is gay too. I say too because to me it's obvious Zach is - much more obvious than, say, Ricky Martin. Just looking at his attitude in the St 2009 bloopers, his whole attitude, body language and speech screams gay. And on pics like
this, you just have to look at his clothing style, the way he walks.... I have enough gay friends to be sure. Part of me wish he'd come out, even though I know he wouldn't because of his career, but then maybe the Trek writers would broke Spock and Uhura up.
I held my Star Trek marathon with my friend C last Friday. Not only did she love the episodes (carefully picked after much angst for best writing, originality and variety in themes and emotional intensity, I must mention, but still), but she also commented on how she loved the looks Kirk and Spock kept giving each other, which made my inner slasher squee in delight. I dragged her to the computer room and had her watch a couple slashy vids, explained to her Roddenberry's 'T'hy'la" and admitted a lot of the fanzines piled on the desk were "Kirk and Spock love stories", which she admitted she could understand where it came from. And she said she'd love to watch more Trek. I'm going to pick the next best slashy episodes I know. :-D I just might, miiiight make a KSer out of her yet. *rubbing hands in glee*
The Vegas con started yesterday.
This article I read this morning gives a sample of the delights that will be offered. Biggest Trek convention in the world, Nimoy and Shatner will be there, they'll auction off original Spock ears in their auction, there will be tons of fanzines and memorabilia... they have a STAR TREK BINGO, for Chrissake. God, I so wish I could be there. It's goin to be jam-packed and I couldn't have afforded it, but still... Bill and Leonard again *dreamy sigh* Plus, the fanzines, tons of fanzines tables just begging to be plundered. I'm so envious.
I found a fabulous site the other day,
TV Tropes. Tongue-in-cheek, the site gleefully and mercilessly dissects shows and characters into their various tropes and themes (all with the most outrageous names); it is made even more hilarious by the random comments added by other users. For each show you can see a list of the tropes it featured, and invertly each trope article lists shows that included it and a description of how. And you wouldn' believe how many of these tropes Trek is responsible for! For examples see articles for
Beard of Evil,
Large Hams and my favorite,
Ho Yay (short for "Homoeroticism, yay!" and whose picture is the Sickbay scene from TMP; there's a full page only for Trek Ho yay) - to be noted that Hoy Yay must not to be confused with
Heterosexual Life Partners :-D I spent hours browsing it with unabashed delight, using the links to the concepts listed to go rom one page to another and anotehr and another :D I never imagined such concepts as
MiniDress of Power ,
The Coconut Effect,
Lampshade Hanging or
Planet of Hats even existed :) Go and enjoy. And have a look at
Red Shirt, if only to peek at the pic and legend and LOL.
Oh, and finally updated the LJ version of my K/S favorites list, it was looooong overdue. My list on Blogger I always keep up to date, but since the LJ Rich Text mode doesn't work at home for some reason, I almost only post on LJ from work (except quick, text-only messages) and I seldom have the time with all the new stuff I had added on Blogger - for some reason LJ doesn't work properly at home so the only place I can ever post on it is at work. Well, LJ proved to be even more of a bother by forcing me to split the list into 2 because it was too long. *sigh* Anyway, the vids and online fics are now
here, and all the rest, including zine recs, is
here. Next step: update profile. And while I'm at it, update KSA and FF.net profiles as well.
