Oiling the writing wheels

Nov 29, 2011 11:32

Need to exercise my writing muscles a bit, and as posting last week seemed to get things moving I thought I'd try it again. Aside from that, I want to try and post some thoughts about the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, which I watched last night. This usually doesn't go as well as I'd hope, so please bear with me.

spoilers for Walking Dead mid-season finale, obv )

I'll be really interested to hear your views on The Crimson Petal and the White. I liked it a lot, which is unusual because I find it very difficult to get into hysterical historical fiction as a rule. I thought Faber writes women well.

I'll let you know. I'm usually quite anti- anything before about 1920, but this is written for present-day readers and, as you say, he writes women well - and manages to convey how women lived then.

I haven't seen University Challenge, yet, but my set-top box claims to have it salted away, so I'll look forward to that round. It's easy, when Jeremy Paxman says that a team's average age is 19 (or whatever), to forget what that actually *means*. How little they've seen!

I know - most of them weren't even thought of when B7 was invented. Sigh.
