It seemed like eternity to them as they were standing in the room embraced, listening to their breathing. One of them quiet and full of strength, the other one trembling and forced, they melted together and became one rich sound of life and the proof of the fact that they were not alone.
Not today.****
That is SO beautiful. These two sad and lonely men have my heart totally......I'm so glad they are finding each other. I loved the image of Ennis watching Jack and feeling the need to come sit on his bed and hold his hand too...I can't wait for Chapter 5 when Jack wakes in Ennis' place..
Thank you Mel.

The scene you have mentioned is one of my favourites too. It bears resemblance with the movie scene but here they embrace each other face to face. It's a huge step forward for both of them... ;-)

Jack needs to tell Ennis what happened to him while in the hospital recovering from his beating, that has made him so afraid of going to one now. Something happened to turn Jack from full recovery of his injuries to the permanent, pain-filled cripple he is now.
I'm sure Ennis, with his own background of pain of another sort, can help Jack immensely, even though he can't give Jack back what was lost. Together they can build a new life.
I have a sneaking suspiscion that one of the men who beat Jack was Ennis' brother.
Thanks. Carole

I'm glad you could read the chapter at home. Last year my computer crashed twice within three months and both times I was offline for several days... It was pure torture... ;-)
