Why didn't I know we have Bravo on the TV at work? I've got an hour to kill before an event, and I was bored out of my skull until I decided to see how basic our basic cable really is. Bravo! The Evil Empire holiday party door prize got shipped to our office ahead of time. It is: The Devil Wears Prada on DVD (hmm, must not be selling well), 500 Ways You can Change the World (published by Collins, an Evil Empire subsidiary), and a 13-watt fluorescent coil light bulb.

When I went to get coffee at the bakery just now, there were a mother and her adult daughter in line before me. I wasn't sure if it was my turn to give my order because the daughter, who was developmentally disabled, kept walking away from her mom to point at something in the case and ask to get it. Within reason, naturally -- like, a piece of jewelry wouldn't be out of bounds but a diamond tennis bracelet would be; a ticket to a Broadway show and dinner would be fine, but not a plane ticket to Europe (not with these prices, at least); you get the picture.
