Melon Field 3 [Ammie]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

On the far side of the island, quite a distance west from the town, there is a melon field. It lies between the edge of the forest and Memento Eden's largest lake, basking in the open sun. On occasion, water fowl waddle nearby, though the influx of visitors to the field seems to have scared them off. The soil nearby goes from hearty to moist and ( Read more... )

Link's interest in the melon rumors was fueled mostly by curiosity. He nocked an arrow from a slight distance and fired at rainbow 3.

The arrow hit the rainbow melon before bouncing off as if it'd hit a platinum plate. The melon was unscathed.

Not expecting that to work, Link walked up to the same melon and tried firmly, steadily hitting it with the bottom of his shield.

The melon rolled over a few times on the dirt.

Itoshiki sat down crosslegged across from Rainbow Melon #1. He knew that many other attempts had failed, but he had a weapon that most others lacked.

He peered at the melon challengingly. "Melon!" He shouted, pointing a finger accusingly. "Your life is a hopeless dead-end! All that awaits you is sitting here until someone figures out how to break you, or disappearing in a week or so when the island gets bored again. You can't have any aspirations! You'll never be anything more than a mere melon! NEVER! YOUR LIFE IS DESPAIR!"

Though the melon did not collapse or crumble at the speech, it did lie there and listen more intently than most people Nozomu got to around these parts. Well, it was a melon. It really had no choice.

Besides, it knew deep down that it was A Melon of Great Import.

Not to be deterred so easily, Itoshiki spring to his feet, whirling around and pointing a finger at Green Melon #2. "And you! You don't even have the interesting coloring of the other melons! You're just like a regular, forgettable melon, except that you can't even provide nourishment to passers by! You're a failure, even as a melon! Your life serves no purpose! Disappear from this world!"

The green melon doesn't seem to be paying attention. If melons have attention spans. But teachers have an instinct for this thing, and any instinct directed towards this melon gave the improbable reading of I think I'm being ignored.

So this is one of the melon patches people are talking about, Eliwood thought as he entered the area. Are these melons really unbreakable? I guess there's only one way to find out. Eliwood pulled his Rapier (prior to Heather's stealing it) from his belt and gave a quick jab at Red 3.

The red melon wobbled slightly from the blow, but took NO DAMAGE (zink!).

Maybe stabbing wasn't it. Eliwood sheathed his Rapier, pulled out his Silver Sword, and brought it down on top of the melon.

Despite the increase in might, the melon still looked untouched, the silver sword deflecting to the side.

Oh, why not, melons are melons, right? But they're supposed to be indestructible, which caught his attention.

However, the only thing caught when he went to examine a patch was his robe; he stumbled and fell quite ungracefully on top of blue melon #5.

The melon certainly didn't cushion his fall.

Ow ow ow OW. Muttering a few curses under his breath, he sat on blue melon #4 while staring at melon #5. "Hmm. If it's unbreakable, conventional methods have probably already been tried. Which means... hmm."

He got up, picked up blue melon #5, and chucked it against red melon #5.

The blue melon bounced ever so slightly off the red melon before landing beside it. Both melons were perfectly intact -- no dent, no scratch, no bruise.

Sakura stalked over to Red #2. Red. A good, strong, violent color.

Still, Sakura was a trained ninja (even if she'd only come by that knowledge second hand, it was no reason to dishonor her profession). Kneeling down by the melon, she gave it a through prodding over.

It felt like a normal melon beneath her fingers, except for its disturbing tendency not to give in the least. It resulted in a rather hard, non-cushy feel.

Pulling a kunai from her pouch, Sakura attempted to cut the melon.

The kunai glided over the smooth melon skin without so much as a scratch.
